Things in America are more spaced out most times so that makes driving more essential, since a subway or bus is not faster to get to your destination most times... Who dont drive imo. well here in Halifax Canada we have a very nice express bus system happening where you can bring your bike with you, and it takes 20 mins to get to downtown on this bus from my house which is as fast as a car since it hardy stops, its picking up like mad way more than they expected.

You can't really blame the foreign folks who are in U.S. jobs (typically over time that is) now...

Instead, YOU have to look @ the "bean counters" making the decisions to do this inside the company's you're dealing w/ that use them.

IMO, it's not even their mgt. either: They are told to "make us money" by boards of directors & shareholders, & to hold onto their jobs? They attempt to generate revenue, even in the short-term only, via controlling the EASIEST thing to control, in payrolls.

This is typically a route to SHORT-TERM gains for the next quarter... but, it often ends up overworking existing staff (if job cuts ONLY are exercised w/ no labor replenishment/rehire), & ends up in a quality level of service (like tech support) that isn't up to par.

Accents... they "bug" most folks that aren't ready for them. I come from a family that has accents since they are 1950's immigrants to this country, so I don't mind them, TOO much... Indian accents I generally understand.

HOWEVER, oriental ones? Those actually THROW me @ times... I never had trouble understanding folks w/ accents, until I dealt w/ folks from the Orient.

WELL:

This forces you to raise prices, yet again... OR, cut jobs.

Businesses just pass on costs to consumers after all, & prices go up, yet again in response.

Eventually, this opens up the ability for other companies from elsewhere to outcompete a business on PRICE alone...

Next, comes material quality cuts on good & then a REAL problem begins (which is partially WHY the US Automotive industry can't compete, along w/ stronger warranties from foreign automakers & higher quality goods too).

I have pals that are engineers, & their job function? CUT the materials cost of this item by 10% for next quarter, or YOU are gone... it is JUST like that. Make me an inferior, cheaper good in other words.

Is there an answer? I don't know... it's a REAL "catch 22"/vicious circle type of a situation.
