I have this icon in the system tray which keeps chaning from a cross to a question mark saying 'critical system error' and every so often it'll pop-up saying you have something or other, buy antimalware to get rid of parasitic programs, click this balloon to download software, now last time i reinstalled windows was because i was dumb enough to click the damn thing which gave me a virus, now i've scanned for viruses and deleted the ones ive found along with spyware, and it still hasnt gone, ive tried closing applications in task manager with no avail, i dont want to click the damn thing or i know i'll get a virus of some sort.

If you do know the process of the virus.exe, copy the name and just search on that particular virus. It will show you ways of removing it. Ctrl+Alt+Delete and go processes.
