Raptor waste of money, same with the 40gb drive. But nice cpu and mobo :)

Its performance benefit is not consistent with its price premium, especially since its only 37gb.

But running your O/s will be greatly faster, and installing only a game or two it will benefit greatly in access speed.

heres what you want http://www.ncix.com/products/index.php?sku=16611&vpn=GC-RAMDISK&manufacture=Gigabyte as they say in the link's link its way faster than any hd (its like 4 raid 0) nice to put your OS onto... to bad thats about all you could put on it.
maybe look into getting one of theses as your harddrive.
http://www.ncix.com/products/index.php?sku=18409 seposed to be a really good NCQ HD (perpendicular writing might be as good as raptor 10k).

I think the point was he just got that stuff and now he's going to put a pc together. I don't think he was wanting advice on what to get or what he should have got. Its decent stuff have fun putting it together Slater

yeah I'm posative it wil work great once it gets asembled, I would rather more hd space for games I dont play and movies that I dont have to delete. I thoguht he might still have this in the shipping stages and get that NCQ HD for less with good proformance, more space and partition it off. :)
Like $50 less for my hd, but I'm sure his choice will still workout great for him.

Pretty sweet looking rig. It should tear ass when it's running.

Far from. It is when you're talking about desktop drives though ;)
A fast drive for Windows really is noticable. 36GB is more than enough for a Windows disk. I do agree about the 40GB disk though.

I am going to use my 120Gb for data storage, the 40 for the OS and the 37 for games.

woo.....so ppl with a raptor get about 3 mins shaved off a long install process lol  you would be hard pressed to see the difference vs. a 7.2k 16MB NCQ SATA2 drive as well, which are available in larger densities, for much, much less i might add :p
btw, shoulda bought mushkin :D go ask pt, he can tell you why ;)

I feel sorry for him :shadedshu
Anyway you warned him...
37gigs is gonna be killed so fast. also raptors are not the fast drives in the world. performance hard drives gives so little back interms of performance. speend the money on faster/more memory, or cpu.

Up and runing yet? Come on, hurry up! LOL.
I was going to get the GA-965P-DS3, but shelled out for the ASUS P5B instead - hope I don't regret it.
Let us know how you fair with everything.
i have seen 300gb+ for about 90bucks, with excellent seek timings. get that instead.
but if you are sure of raptor, then lose the 40gb, than use the extra money to get the 76gb raptor...why not get 10k rpm of 76gb rather than 36gb of 10k and 40gb of 7.2k
DaMulta

I bet its not 4, its more than likely 9 seek time.

Because that way I can use one for games and one for the OS, so that they are both on the outer tracks so it's faster.

typically about 8 milliseconds, while real world results show raptors with around 5 millisecond access times.
who has a raptor and who has a 16MB SATA2 NCQ drive? I think some hard results are needed to show once and for all raptors are a significant waste of money.

I'll have a segate 16mb sata2 ncq drive in a couple of weeks what program could I use to test hd speed? I think my current computer only has sata1 and I wont have my ds3 mobo for 3-5 weeks.
