I need a slick E-mail program!

My parents are absolutely stonewall about keeping AOL. The best reason they can give me for keeping it is the easy to use E-mail interface. I ain't arguing, I haven't found anything easier to use, but it TAKES SO MUCH MEMORY! And so I'm thinking that if I can find something nice and easy to use, I might be able to get my parents to use it instead of AOL, and finally get the bloatware known as AOL off my computer! The requirements-
Must be easy to use
Can't be browser-based (so AIM mail, Yahoo, and MSN are no-no's)
Preferably compatible with AOL mail, my parents don't want to switch E-mail accounts
Can't be Mozilla Thunderbird...I tried it and it sucks in terms of multiple E-mail accounts, and it erased all my saved mail :(.
Any ideas?

I only use my own webmail, it's from Kerio mailserver. What's the problem exactly with webbased? Make a linky to it on your desktop and you're set.

I see nothing wrong with the internet mail interface, but my parents sure do...They always notice when AOL is not loaded, and definitely miss the full AOL mail suite. I'm trying Microsoft Outlook Express now, so far so good, I just need my parents to take a look at it. Hopefully that'll make things easier...$15 a month towards AOL is $15 wasted (I forget why my parents are still paying, considering I was the one who posted news about how AOL is free).

I use Outlook for business and Outlook Express for private. They are very straightforward to use. If using Outlook, I recommend O2003 only. There are odd limitations and peculiarities in the older Outlook. So I run Office 2000, but have Outlook 2003 over the top. Clunky, I know.

O2003 is a very nice piece of software, especially calendar and task management. OE is much simpler and easier to use. For an older generation, I would recommend OE. And a PAPER address book and diary. LOL.

Lots of 3rd parfty tools are available if you want to configure spam or backups.

zek try gmail, its got alot of the fetues in the web enterface that make people wana stick with aol, if you need an invite pm me with ur email addy and i will send one.

for easy to use multi account email support Opera has an EASY to use client built in(opera browser rox)

if you havent tryed gmail you should its EASY AS CAN BE, and auto complete for email addys, and TONS of other fetures, crazy good really and AFIK it can check aol mail for you as well.

i know how hard it is to convert people off aol, i am a tech, i have and to ween people off it more then once, alot of times its best to get them to slowly move over to another free service that dosnt suck.

a buddy also said you could check that he thought there was an extention for FF that gave you an aol email type enterface.

I can't seem to tell them that AOL is a useless piece of bloatware nowadays :p. I'll look into those ideas, thanks :D.

there is a configuration usually in the client to leave a copy on the server rather than deleting. Any who...GMAIL FTW!

gmail works great for me, and even my barly able to use a computer mother can use it without me hand holding her unlike her lycos account my father got her, now thats fun, teaching her each time they radicly redesign the the web enterface and site(3 times now......ftw)

its made to be pretty noob friendly and had GREAT help section, even a total noobert can understand :)

You need to be invited for Gmail.

you dont need to be invited anymore. you just go to the Gmail page and click sign up. i just created one for my brother a few weeks ago so i know it works without an invite.

not sure. it says i still have 99 invites left...they must have messed up because i think the whole "invite" system was just for smaller groups of people to try it in its earlier stages.
