WTF IS GOING ON. Surely I should be beating a STOCK X800XT PE... I've noticed this for a long time, but never said anything. Now it's time to make a stand! Anybody shed some light on this? I idle at 37*C and max out at 52*C during these benches.

What do you get in 3DMark05?

Casheti
10-23-2006, 01:02 AM
I'll go download it. What do you think the problem is at this stage in time?

Not really sure at all...but it's just ATI Tray Tool's benchmark, 3DMark05 would be more accurate, and you can compare w/ an X800XT's 3DMark05 score.

Downloading now...eta 18 minutes @ 242kb/s :D

Should I end all the programs I can before running 3DMark 05? I have said to myself that if this thing doesn't start performing soon I'm gonna buy a 7900GS end of this year. Second hand OR brand new...I don't give a crap. This X850XT was brand new, straight from eBay :p Came with stock cooer though, so I spent extra £20 on the arctic...

I get roughly that same score on default clocks... 3928

Sure, it will help you out by ending the programs.

Casheti
10-23-2006, 01:09 AM
Okie dokie :p It's nice to see steevorob's score showing that CPU and ram and things like that don't affect the score...:D

stevorob
10-23-2006, 01:11 AM
I would also go with a 3dmark05 score over this tray tool

Casheti
10-23-2006, 01:12 AM
OMG!! How did you clock yours so high? Mine artefacts at 582MHz Core and 642MHz Memory...

stevorob
10-23-2006, 01:14 AM
Good case airflow... I artifact out at like 639/658

Also, my usual room temp is like 68-70F

Casheti
10-23-2006, 01:16 AM
Feckin' schweet. :p How come it didn't affect the score with such a high core?

stevorob
10-23-2006, 01:17 AM
Ran at defaults like you did...

Casheti
10-23-2006, 01:18 AM
Oh lol, DUH *punches self in t3h face*. Me being stupid :p

stevorob
10-23-2006, 01:27 AM
4689 @ 620/630
4763 @ 624/639

Huge difference in just a little bump.

I was getting artifacts at 633/645, so I dropped the clocks a little... it's warm in my room right now, so my card was running warmer than usual.

EDIT: Casheti... you might not be able to OC your core higher because of that PSU you have... Maybe with some more juice you can crank it up a little more.

Do you think the PSU is the problem. I'm trying to buy a new one off of Ketxxx at the moment. If all goes well, we can test your theory. :D

My x850xt isn't doing that well either... doesn't play BF2 @ maxed.... and I cant get the memory over 600 so I'm thinking of RMAing it.

Casheti

Mine plays it maxed out, BUT, for some reason, I slow down or you could even class it as "lag", in some maps but not others...I'm sick of not being able to play it maxed smoothly on ALL maps. I can't believe you can't max it out with a conroe!

DaMulta

OK what CPU are you two running? CPU does matter in games when it comes to being bottle necked. Memory will affect your GPU benchmark score, check and see if you have those settings right.

I have a shitty 2.8GHz Pentium D 920 Dual Core. And my memory is generic. Is there any SAFE way to alter my graphics memory timings??
I'm off to bed, it's 3:32am.

Not your graphics memory timing, your system memory.

dont have the conroe, yet. Wendsday it should arrive.

But it does play maxed, but it has horrible framrates.

Its probably that Pentium D. 2.8 GHz is very slow for netburst.

i always thought my X850XT modded to PE was bad at clocks of 550/600 max!!!!!
I can only reach 6500 in 3D05......so now i know its crap...lol

seems like you guys have some ungodly clocks tho (well done) either I'm missing something huge or my system is just poop anymore .

so Cash i hope this post makes u feel a little better about yours.

Indeed it does, thanks dude. Mine must be magical.....YAY! Anyways, there IS an option in Tray Tools to change the memory timings on the graphics card, but it has a "very dangerous" warning on it. Is there any way can change my timings safely?

I was getting 7200+ outta my HIS 850XT ICEQ 2 Turbo, and Casheti, you are gonna hate me saying it to you again but its your PSU!!! ATI quote the minimum power supply as 350W for the 850XT so you are probably only pulling about 80-90% of the potential outta your card. ....sorry M8.

Casheti
10-23-2006, 12:33 PM
Where do they say that?

stevorob
10-23-2006, 02:52 PM
Says it on the box.

A good quality PSU will ensure that you get max performance out of your card. (I added this part :))

What's netburst?

And okay, we'll see how it goes when I get the PSU :D Waiting for Ketxxx to get back to me

Thank you, only been telling him for 7 months! It certainly said it on my box.

if you want to up your score, try pulling out half your ram, you might see an increase, if you have one stick that's not as fast as the others (or one pair not as fast as the other pair)
cycle through the sticks thusly and run 3dmark, you might see about a 100pt delta (maybe this is jsut an educated guess, but a guess more than anything)

sticks in 1,2,3,and4 now are aa bb cc dd respectively
aa bb
aa cc
aa dd
bb cc
bb dd
cc dd

see what your fastest score is, only six reboots and 3d05 runs :)

Casheti
10-23-2006, 06:25 PM
LOL. Do you have any idea how hard it is to get to the ram in this case?? I cut my hand installing these 2 512's. It's the worst case design I have EVER seen...

my score is low to but i can a 3d mark score of over 7300 and i have even lowered some of my timings 2 get a better score so maybe there is somthing wrong with the tool???
