hehehe i got a new wickedlasers laser pointer, and its rated <20mw. Got it on ebay for $37.
Its so cool!!!
Heres a video
http://smg.photobucket.com/albums/v347/Napalm_Fire/?action=view¤t=2balloon15mw.flv
Im also getting a <100mw laser pointer some time next week. That should be more fun, as this one is only rated <20mw and technically, it shouldnt even be able to pop balloons. Its probably stronger than 20mw, as wickedlasers.com usually rates the lasers as their average power output.
check out www.wickedlasers.com I got the Classic 15mw, and the Extreme Nexus <95mw(usually puts out around 110mw)

That certainly does look like retna burning good times. So how long until your able to perform laser eye surgery on your friends ;).
ps: i didn't even know that they sold lasers that gave enough heat to pop anything! Is it powered on watch batteries like most others?

Its powered by AAA's. 2 of em.
Alkalines do the best, lithiums 2nd, and rechargables for 3rd.
Really, rechargables work fine. The alkalines are only for burning purposes.
ps. You need to use goggles when you deal with these lasers. The remove all of the harmful light, and dim the dot down quite a bit.
The nexus(100mw) can light cigarettes and burn paper. :-)
Theres a model called the Spyder, and the 250mw can ignite paper, and it will burn through construction paper easily.
dark colored objects(black, red, brown) burn the best, while colors that reflect green, or let it pass through(green, white, yellow) do not burn.
I want to buy clear balloons, put a red balloon inside a clear one, and try to pop the red one from outside the clear one.
**putting black dots on it with a sharpie helps anythign to be burned.
and the lasers feel like a bee sting on your skin.. lol... rather fun to do.

Yes, but when you point one at an airplane it thinks that a target has locked on to it. People were doing it here.

the 15mw isnt really that impressive imo. the 100mw will be fantastic.
Im going to power mod the 15mw to get around 35mw~, and i should be able to burn paper and light matches.
with a magnifying glass, i can smoke matches and black plastic..

What if you pointed it at your eye? Even just the 15mv one...

it'd burn a hole in your retina. the cones and rods in your eyes are so sensitive to light, and are red from capillaries. The green laser is absorbed 2nd best by red, first best by black(which all colors are absorbed to)
It would destroy cells and you would end up with a blind spot in part or most of your eye depending on how much you move it around.
the 15mw would do damage also. 5mw~ will flash blind you and you'll feel nausious for quite a while, with a very terrible headache..
usually the pointers rated <5mw are around 1 or 2mw, which really wont do anything. you have to have it tested for its power output. anything from 4.99mw and less is legal as use for a pointer. anything higher is classified as a Class IIIA pointer, and is for strict use as lighting effects, and astronomy use(if you have a liscence)
If you want a pointer that can easily do 40mw, get one of these.. $59 shipped to the US.

You just remove the button, cut a hole in the plastic under the button, and turn the small potentiometer and the power increases. the only reason it is underpowered is due to FDA regulations. In order for it to then be legal(who cares) you have to get an output sticker that shows <Xmw of your current laser.
**Alot of laws vary per state. NJ for one, doesnt matter what age you are, how many mw are legal to own, and dont care if you buy or sell lasers higher than that power level. It does matter that you use a laser <5mw for pointing purposes though.
check out www.lasercommunity.com for some more stuff to fill your brain with. i love that site, lol.. so much to look @.

120mw, NiMH batteries(lower powered than alkalines, which would have burned much quicker)
Enjoy!

take that 125mw one and try to pop a kernal of popcorn....that would be a riot..
W2hCYK
11-03-2006, 03:23 AM
I tried.. it only heats at a small point where the light touches. It would take waaay too long for the laser to heat the whole kernel. Maybe with a 400mw one, it would burn and pop... 120mw isnt high enough.

Yeah, but it's not the lazer that does the trick, it's the bullet that goes to where the lazer is pointed that interrupts the synaptic activity:roll:

Maybe you can give me a tip,
I'm torn between buying a 125mW from www.dragonlasers.com and the same laser pointer at www.wickedlasers.com
They are both competitors and have the same product at different prices. The one from dragonlasers is over $100 cheaper but wickedlasers is an established brand.
What is your recommendation for a guy who is short of cash but REAL keen for a 125mW?
