- Added option to control artifact detection sensitivity
- Fixed memory timings editor's MEM_TRFC extra options with garbled characters after the list of correct options
- Added option "Beep on artifact"
- Default profile always in list, even when profiles.ini does not exist
- Fixed crash issue when opening Memory Timings Editor window more than once
- When multiple ATI cards are installed, you can now select the one to use
- Crash issues when returning from standby/hibernate with Catalyst 4.8+ fixed
- Fan control is restored correctly when returning from standby/hibernate
- Completely rewritten Kernel Mode Driver, it's no longer a legacy NT4-style driver

Please test thoroughly

AMD64 testing is needed (my test system is gone)
Multi-ATI card testing is needed (got no ATI PCI card, MATROX!! )
Please play with the different artifact detection sensitivity settings (is the range of settings there ok, do we need more "higher oc, less artifacts" settings?)

oh and bumped the version number a bit .. we gotta get rid of all those 0's

at the moment you always have to reboot when changing the adapter ... it should remember the selected adapter unless you change it again

I think this prog works very fine. Some bugs are possible, but if no one tell it to W1zzard, he can´t get them off.

Any chance of a '-20c' option for the core temp, W1zzard? ;)

The temp values are also still showing "0" (probe) and "20.x" (core) under load on a 9800XT. :/

When I boot from a BSOD atitool tells me video card has been changed or no ATI video card found....

Didn't happen on other versions...back to .23 for now

Morrowind doesn't load up with ATI Tool running, this beta version and .23 version.

Edit: Well, once I installed both expansion packs, Tribunal and Bloodmoon, it loaded with ATI Tool running.

Getting a weird "Ati card not found in system" error with my X800TX PE (AGP)

This happens on every reboot if I uninstall/reinstall ATItool, then it works fine, but as soon as I reboot I get the error :(

Am Using the new ati catalyst 5.1's

Ah well... maybe back to 0.23 for me... will see.

cheers

Hi W1zzard.
Version 0.24 Beta1 works fine for me. The beep on artifact is a good idea. :D
I have done some tests with the sensitivity. In the default (i think the 2nd position from left is default?) I get nearly same results as with 0.23 (395.18/347.63, Stockcooling, errorfree for 990 sec.)
Then I moved slider to the middle and started "Find Max Core" again. At the scanning my 9800np shortly gets over 400 Mhz ( ) and then stepped back to 398. But at this clockspeed I can see artifacts with my eyes only, but ATITool doesn´t see them. I abborted the scan.
I think this option must be used very carefully.

P.S.: What about including two Soundfiles for the 3d-detection in the next version? I have found two nice soundfiles matching nice for up- and downclocking. If you are interessted, let me know.

I tried the 0.24 beta 1, with my ati 9600 XT

My system:
DFI Ultra infinity nforce 2 Mb - Merlin bios modification
Gecube ati 9600 xt with vga silencer and cupper in mem chips
512 mb ddr kingston
athlon xp 2400 ---> 220x10.5 overclock
seagate 160gb

I upgrade the bios for the mobo recently and i don't know if this is the cause of this high overclock or if this the new ati tool, i must check with the previous version.

after:
clock: 494
mem: 332

now:
clock: 570
mem: 342

i want up a screenshot, but i don't know how

Hi, I have a PCI & AGP in my system so I wanted to check out this version. I see that when I select my AGP card (& it asks for a reboot), the Settings-->chip type shows up correctly (as do the timings), but the Settings-->Use Device drop down menu shows "PCI Device". I would have thought my AGP card would be in the dropdown since it is the currently selected one in ATITool.

Thanks for taking the time to support the dual video card folks!

W1zzard I hope you recieved all my e-mails with screenhoots about:

- init of find max: subsequent images are different. please report this bug
- color dots at right and bottom edges
- and no finding artifacts

I test again and find:
my configuration
AIW VE PCI - primary card (in BIOS dispaly init sets to PCI/AGP)
X800

in WindowsXP I use X800 (connected by DVI) as main application monitor and extend desktop to AIW VE PCI (in windows X800 - Monitor 2, AIW VE PCI - Monitor 1 ), I use Hydravision to redirect all output to X800 - Monitor 2.

when in windows:
- X800 - Monitor 2 set as primary monitor
- in ATI Tool choose also X800
- ATI Tool & 3D Preview window situated also on Monitor 2
and I try Find Max (any) than "recieve init of find max: subsequent images are different. please report this bug" and yellow 3D Preview window.

when in windows:
- Monitor 1 set as primary monitor
- in ATI Tool choose also X800
- ATI Tool & 3D Preview window situated also on Monitor 2
and I try Find Max (any) - ATI Tool CAN overclock, BUT not find ANY artifactcs even all monitor in artifacts, because ..... attention!!!!!!!!!!!!

because use for rendering and find artifacts AIW VE chip!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

W1zzard, great job so far. Atitool now works perfectly with my 9800pro and 7000.
I do have a small issue. I'm also using a dual processor setup and the cube doesn't rotate smoothly but is rather choppy. When I change the affinity of the atitool to a single processor the cube rotates normally. Everything seems to work perfectly fine, including the FPS reporting other than the cube rotating.

Hi,

I tried to upgrade from 0.23 and it does not work. Even if I uninstall the old version first I get an error in the detailed install report. The error is:
New device driver could not install (0000000002)
However the device driver is loaded by the installation program and the atitool works fine .... until reboot.
After I reboot the system atitool gives an errormessage, that the kernel mode driver is not running. It is also not visible in the device manager.

It seems that the installation program fails to register the driver, but can load it ?!?

The same error also occurs if I try to repar the installation. However installing the old 0.23 over the new 0.24 works fine even without uninstalling the other version.

I'm lost. Any suggestions?

Thanks

andele does your windows bootup (till login) take longer than 30 seconds?

andele
01-31-2005, 09:48 AM
No, I don't think that it lasts longer than 30 sec.

I also tried the second version of atittol 0.24 that you posted in this thread, the one with the longer waiting time - since the problem description given in the thread before seemed very similar to my problem.
However that made no difference.

I don't think that it is a problem of bootup, but of installation, since I already get an error there.
I wonder why the setup succeeds in loading the driver, but the system after reboot does not. Maybe some registration fails?

Thanks

André

P.S.:

I'm wondering about the error code given by the setup (2). If this is a standard windows error code it says "File not found". However if finds the driver to be loaded. So what file does it look for that setup does not find?

Additionally, I am not getting consistant framerates. Sometimes I hit around 200avg, and now im running the exact same thing at 140avg. It seems to happen if I have it open for awhile and I go through the menus. When I shut it down, and open it again it goes back to the 200avg framerate.

Hello Wizzard,

now here comes the result of my research with debugview.

First of all the installation details when I install 0.24:
Output folder: C:\Programme\ATITool
Extract: ATITool.exe
Extract: ATIToolHooks.tmp
Rename: C:\Programme\ATITool\ATIToolHooks.tmp->C:\Programme\ATITool\ATIToolHooks.dll
Extract: monitoring.ini
Created uninstaller: C:\Programme\ATITool\Uninstall.exe
Driver setup: started
Old devices: removed
New device: created
Output folder: c:\temp
Extract: ATITool.inf
Extract: ATITool64.sys
Extract: ATITool.sys
New device driver: could not install (00000002)
New device: started
Create folder: C:\Dokumente und Einstellungen\andele\Startmenü\Programme\ATITool
Create shortcut: C:\Dokumente und Einstellungen\andele\Startmenü\Programme\ATITool\U ninstall.lnk
Create shortcut: C:\Dokumente und Einstellungen\andele\Startmenü\Programme\ATITool\A TITool.lnk
Create shortcut: C:\Dokumente und Einstellungen\andele\Startmenü\Programme\ATITool\A TITool Log File.lnk
Completed

You can see the error message during install. Direct executing AtiTool without reboot gives the following output in debugview:

Thats it. Atitool controls are greyed then.

Thanks for your help.

do you have the driver in your device manager?

andele
02-03-2005, 12:58 PM
No, the driver is not in the device manager. So it seems, that really installation fails...

P.S.: With version 0.23 it was there and I suppose it should be at the same place?

W1zzard
02-03-2005, 01:32 PM
no .. 0.0.23's driver is displayed under "non-pnp devices" .. 0.24 creates an own group "ATITool Utility"

"New device driver: could not install (00000002)" - 2 means file not found

does the directory c:\temp exist?

check if %SystemRoot%\SetupApi.log contains some useful information

andele
02-03-2005, 01:35 PM
Ah ok, but the driver also does not exist somewhere else. And yes, the directory temp exists and the files are correctly copied there.

I do have an msn contact, however I unfortunately don't have the computer available at the moment where the problem exists. Si I either will try to contact you this evening or somewhen tomorrow.
Many thanks for your help.

Hey, question..

Since 0.23 Final, why havent I been able to select the A.I Catalyst level anymore??

andele
02-04-2005, 12:26 PM
Due to wizzards help I was able to come around the installation problem reported before. :)
If anyone else has the following problem on a windows xp computer:

You try to install ATITool, but after reboot the Utility reports that the kernel driver was not found

the problem is related to an unsuccessful installation. During installation press the "Details" button in the installation dialog and watch out for errors. If the installation program says that it was unable to install the driver you may do the following as solution:

Right click on the Desktop icon and choose "Properties" and then the "Hardware" sheet. Press the "Driversigning" button and set the option to "Ignore". Try to install again. Installation should work now. Don't forget to change the setting back to "Warning" after installation.

Many thanks to wizzard for his help!

I get about 121fps on my secondary display, while I move it over and get 200fps on my main display.

Is this a problem with the ati tool or the drivers?

Hello Wizzard,

yesterday I discovered, that the 0.24 beta does not set the clock frequency after the wakeup from a system suspend. I thought you said it should do it now and I even thought, that I tried it once and it worked the last time, however it does not work now for me.
I usally have ATTool open in the tray area during resume. Just in case that makes a difference.

Have a nice weekend

I have just installed your 0.24 beta 1. I will be using it to test the limits of my 9800 before and after fitting a bigger cooler and monitoring the effect. So I'll use this opportunity to give your beta a good workout. I'll let you know if I find any nasties or have any suggestions. Thanks for a great program.

W1zzard I probably find where problem in color dots at right and bottom edges and error:"init of find max: subsequent images are different. please report this bug" when try to start #init find max mem# or #init find max core# ! ;)

any history before:

at my home computer, where my son playing computer games, in system tray about 18 icons ;). I use Autologon settings to start WindowsXP. and very often, when winows starts only 6 or may be 8 or some times even 2 icons appear in system tray.
I usually for my use do next - logoff and again logon, than all icons appear.

today, at morring my son on computer playing LOTR. later I decide run 3Dmark05, to see score on new cat 5.2 and start ATI Tool to load overcloked profile and....

cannot see color dots!!!!!!!!!!!

than run 3Dmark05 and cannot see at right and bottom edges like color flame!!!!!!!

run ATI Demo Ruby Double Cross and cannot see yellow gradient colored line about 10 sm width!!!!!!!!!

unbelievable!!!!!

I again start ATI Tool and try Find Max - NO MORE ERROR "init of find max: subsequent images are different. please report this bug"!!!!!!!!

what's happen????????????????? I think, but no any ideas.

than I go to ATI Tool Misc. and see ATI AI set to Low, but I remember that I set it to Advanced in ATI CCC! and I try check this, for this check click ATI CCC shortcut, but...... ATI CCC NO LAUNCH!!!!!!!!!!!!!

than I logoff and logon again, after this ATI CCC launch, I check Advanced AI and again start ATI Tool.....

unbelievable????????????????

AGAIN color dots at right and bottom edges!!!!!!!

AGAIN "init of find max: subsequent images are different. please report this bug" when try to start Find Max.

problem find: when ATI CCC runtime run (cli.exe) than ATI Tool get error "init of find max: subsequent images are different. please report this bug" and color dots at right and bottom edges.

I have a 9500 Pro flased to 9700 Pro. I am using Catalyst 5.2 with the Catalyst control center. Finding max core works great, but I am having problems finding max memory. It works fine, but after awhile, usually after 30 minutes, the screen becomes corrupt and my system eventually crashes. What should I do?

Hi Wizzard,

a few days ago I reported a problem, that ATITool does not set the values when the system returns from suspend mode. You wanted to see the debugview content, so here it is. I can't see anything specific to ATITool in fact. This is the complete log during shutdown and resume.

Thanks

André

W1zzard,

I just installed the CAT5.2 drivers, and I do not think I made any additional changes to anything, and when I select hardware monitoring, it locks up the computer hard. I was extremely surprised as it worked earlier.

Hi Wizzard,
I did a find max core and max mem the other day (with 0.24 beta 1) and much to my surprise it found the same MHz (580 core/570 mem) as when I've been using the old method with earlier versions of ATITool. I went into the settings to check and the new method was in use, set to the next most sensitive detection.
I have a Visiontek Xstasy RADEON X800 Pro w/Cat 5.2. Wouldn't you too have expected lower results? Just thought I'd mention this in case the old method is being used anyway for some reason.

Thanks for a great piece of software. It's greatly appreciated!

Selecting beep on artifact on the Artifacts page doesn't work, preview window becomes very jerky when mouse hovers over anything that brings up a message balloon, such as in the Task Tray. Not sure if this ones a bug or not but my voltage lines show up to be over 200V and my Hard Drive Temps are fine for the first inspection but if I go back to the main ATiTool page then back to the Hardware monitor page they show up as 1.$C. Lastly on the Fan Control page the defaults for the Dynamic based GPU Temps are dangerously high, not a bug but still needs sorting to stop those who don't check every thing from frying there card.

Cheers, Diggs

P.s.. Is there any chance of passing on all the info from ATiTools Hardware monitor to MotherBoard Monitor as my board isn't supported under MBM5 and Asus Probe refuses to install..

Hi!

I have updated to 0.24b1

I have used ati tool from 0.22 and mainly it has worked great! Only problems i have had with it, is when im updating it, and keeping the previous settings. So now on i allways uninstall, and use ex. RegCleaner 4.3.0.780 http://www.majorgeeks.com/download460.html, or EasyCleaner 2.0.6 Build 6 http://www.majorgeeks.com/download414.html. And do a fresh install.
