View Full Version : WTF??? HUGE Voltage DROPS - ASUS P5B AP

What should I do??? This would explain why I was having lousy overclocking results yesterday:
1) I set my VCore in BIOS to some value and it's way lower in Windows
2) I run Prime95 and see voltage drop and some fairly significant voltage fluctuations
I'm monitoring with both ASUS Probe (LOL) and CPUz - they agree with eachother. Here's what I witnessed:
BIOS VCore setting: 1.425v
Windows Idle: 1.368v
Windows Load (Prime95): 1.344v
BIOS VCore setting: 1.450v
Windows Idle: 1.392-1.388v
Windows Load (Prime95): 1.368-1.360v
BIOS VCore setting: 1.465v
Windows Idle: 1.408v
Windows Load (Prime95): 1.376v - 1.368
BIOS VCore setting: 1.475v!!!
Windows Idle: 1.415v
Windows Load (Prime95): 1.392v - 1.386
I'm testing this tabletop build with an ANTEC 630W PSU. Rail voltages reported by ASUS Probe dont change at all - 12.15v 4.95v. Lastest BIOS from ASUS.
Is it RMA time? FUCK!

:wtf: It should be the opposite for load and idle......:shadedshu

The voltage should rise when under load??? I just did the same test on a Dell here at work with the identical 630 processor, it stayed constant at 1.420v

It rises only if u set poewr saving. Like AMD powersaving (forget the damn name). Whereby your system is set to have lower FSB when idle and the clocked speed when load which also means more power. Werid. This is simply werid. What the hell... Its like Running = walking And walking=running.

No, that shit is disabled... the FSB is constant idle/load.
...Intel calls it "Speedstep".
8 Phase power regulator??? Just more ways for things to go wrong, I guess.

I think this is an extreme version of "VDroop", and I have a defective motherboard... hope someone can shed light, thanks for at least trying to help Agility. :)

Now I wonder if I've pissed people off or just not been in the "groove", but this is really dissapointing... is it that no one has a clue or give a fuck? I'm kinda hurt - been here for almost a year and had fun, helped others as much as I could - right now, I need help... and Asus forums certainly eat shit.
I guess I'll just STFU, quit whining and wait for the RMA email... but that hasn't even arrived yet.
Hell, I'm just having a bad day - I'll go crawl in a hole. FTW.

Your mobo is fine. It's the sensor chip that has no clue about the real voltages.
Go buy a digital multimeter.

I would say ditch the P5B and get a DS3, i love mine :D And thats alot of vdroop for an 8phase mobo :twitch:
