Yay, or nay? I need to reinstall windows...and I have a copy of both the 64 bit, and 32bit professional editions. I've toyed with the 64 bit vista, but it doesn't support a few of the 32 bit apps I like to use, like crystal cpuid, among others. What i did like about it was the speed, and I'm assuming this is due to the 64bit nature of the OS. Would you expect that I'd encounter similar oddities with certain programs in windows xp 64? Should I just stick with the 32 bit version?? as far as drivers go, it looks like there's a lot of support for 64bit windows, at least for all the hardware in my system..

are you telling me to search the forums? I'm asking for opinions, and most of the topics I had come across that discuss xp64 are old, and don't really give any perspective on the availability or compatability currently in regards to programs and drivers.

If you are wanting all your programs to work as have a 100% chance of finding drivers for everything and anything go with the 32bit version (this would be my choice)
If you want the OS to run a little faster but risk some programs not working properly and the chance that one day you may have something which doesn't have 64bit drivers available go with the 64bit one. Even on the 64bit though you wont notice much if any difference in the speed of the applications you run on it... only the os will seem faster.
