Some lucky Austrians got their BFG Geforce 8800GTS early. 12 of them were sold by a local computer store today. Lets just say I am one of those lucky ones:

Prices for a Geforce 8800GTS range from 429 Euros for the Asus variant to just under 500 Euros. The BFG sells for 469.99€.

Darksaber, please post some benchmarks for us simple mortals! :toast:

So you are one of the first persons on this planet to have a DX10 video card!, I'm so green with envy! :respect: :respect: :respect: :pimp:

The suspense is killing me  I have never been this excited about an Nvidia card.
Depending on these benchies I might FINALLY leave AGP in the dust.....

there's a chinese review site with both g80 cards, but it's not very reputable looking/can't really know what they mean even with babelfish translation

just checked the shop for something else...and there it was. There were 6 left at the time of my order. The only way to get one put aside for me was to hit "will pick up" instead of delivery. So I drove 20 miles to pick it up :D

The guy behind the counter (I know him well) jokingly said "we had to send em all back" *G* I just smiled and said "yea just the GTX not the GTS" and he was "right you are" and went to fetch my card from the back :D

3dMark06 benchies in 20 min. ;)

I knew reading tech news daily would come in handy one day, don't you agree?

alright, do not be dissapointed:
3DMark 06
7555 on a normal Windows maschine X2 4600+ (S939) with 2GB DDR400 and dirty windows install.

remember G80 is mainly CPU dependent...so benchmarks with a QuadCore or high speed Core 2 Duo/X2 AM2 chip will yield much better results!

I will do a complete review if I get the time for it :D

I don't totally agree with you on this, I mean, although a faster proc will certainly help in every benchmark and game, the G80 isn't per se any more or less CPU dependent than any other particular GPU, I would say that 3DMark06 is very CPU dependent because of how it integrates the CPU score to the overall score. Check the 3dMark03 and '05 scores some other sites are posting for further proof of this :)

Thanks for the benchmark though, and congrats on your new video card.

maybe we could get individual sm2.0 and sm3.0 scores in addition to overall score

ah :) well I do not mean 3dMark06, I actually mean the GPU/CPU pair. A 8800 with a high end CPU will certainly give you a lot more points:
http://www.techpowerup.com/?19498

I will take the reports of theINQ with a grain of salt, but it is safe to say, that the GPU is more CPU dependant than ever before...

I will OC everything (System and such) to see how far I can get.

Well the very inefficient engine of Gothic 3 is a killer for Graphic Cards...
I am able to turn everything on HIGH with 1920x1200 no probs.

will let ya know bout numbers in other games as soon as I start working on the review.

Still not 100% convinced :p I sincerely are not meaning to contradict you, but the thread you quote is based on an article posted on the inquirer as well :)

I read you are working on a review of the card, dunno if this is too much to ask, don't even know if this may be possible, but would you please be so kind as to include benchmarks where you compare this card and different other current nVidia and Ati cards on different games and/or synthetic benchmarks running both on stock CPU clocks and overclocked CPU clocks (or even different CPUs perhaps?) and no video card OC?

That way it would be easier to compare how much of a bottleneck a CPU is for the G80 when compared to other cards. You could include separate SM2.0 and 3.0 scores for 3dMark06 as Mustang suggested as well ;)

I don't mean to be annoying, trust me, I really know you may want to start gaming with your new video card ASAP and not waste too much time with benchmarks, but this may help clear a lot of doubts many ppl has right now about the G80 :)

well first off, you are not annoying :), it is good to get some input.
Well CPUs, I could test a single core 939 (low end 3000/3200) to see if it makes a big difference. Like I said, pictures are taken for the review already, but benching takes a lot of time (7950GX2 took around 70h of work)...I will have to see for what I have time.

It will be compared to NVIDIA cards 7900GTX and 7950GX2

Hey, that was fast! (It's 4 am here, what time is it in Austria?) Thanks for your reply, and I wish you good luck with your review, really looking forward to it ;)

I think using the other 939 CPUs will be more than good enough make the comparison I suggest.

Hope it won't take too much of your time to do all that benchmarking, I can barely concieve how tedious it must be to benchmark video cards for over 70hrs :p

Thank you so much :)

EDIT: Totally off topic, but I just noted this is my 1000th post, w00t! :D

Also I see that you had a 7900GTX already, it would be nice to see how the new card benches against NVidia's old "top ender" to give us a real feel of price/performance.
