So I had no idea where else to put a thread about monitors, this looked like a good spot, correct me if I am wrong :)

So I currently have a 17" LCD 6MS Viewsonic, it is nice, but I would like to get something with more real estate.

I was looking at something like this http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?item=N82E16824014131, but I dont know.

Suggestions, comments, so on. Thanks :)

We need to know a price range to help...

This is the right place to post a topic like this I think by the way, and that BenQ looks quite nice but I don't know much about the good brands, I'm sure someone else could help you out though.

you should look into a Viewsonic 20" it has a real 8bit panel unlike samsungs 20 inch (its really a 6bit panel modded).. this will give you better picture quailty. 22" panels are all TL panels.. though I prob going with a 22 incher, because I want to use it for movies in my room when I have someone over, if not I'll get a viewsonic 20".

I think this is the one people were sugesting over the samsung

If I may ask....what exactly do you mean by 8-bit panel and TL?

Also saw this 22" http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16824252006

There is a black version of it as well

I beleive it has to do with colour reproduction.. well from what people say it makes the lcd look better. someone has the samsung 20" (claimed to be 8-bit) and the viewsonic, side by side one friend had one the other the other.. and the viewsonic looked better.

I cant remember exactly TL panel but it was said while going through reviews at Ncix.com I believe.

Sorry I cant help you much on reserch atm work up late its 4:30.. pm

Edit: oh I could be wrong saying TL it prob is TN :P, I got somewhat bad memory..

Nice...not sure how I would get one in the states though, I wouldn't even be able to import from them either, no stock. Thanks though, I will look around on US vendors.

I know its been awhile since I said anything, but I finally got my monitor, its really nice. Other then the one dead pixel, but for the moment it seems to be cured.(Left a rapid changing color pallete on it for a few hours(blue, red, green, white, black) that seems to have fixed it)

Anyways, contraty to everything I was told and researched, I have had an increase in FPS in games, only difference being a larger resolution.....crazy

www.merkortech.com is a good place to look, they have lcd's and crt's at great prices.

if you dont "need" an lcd you can get a 21/22in monotor(high end) for 140+ free shiping :)

Sorry to hear about your dead pixel on a new TFT. That sucks. Did you get the TFT in a store or online/delivery?

If in a store, then you could try taking it back to "upgrade" it to a bigger model or higher resolution. Just dont tell them there is a problem... tell them it is perfect but you just want something bigger.

If you bought it online, bad luck.

Samsung have brought 2 new 20 inch panels out in September 2006, both are genuine 8 Bit panels now so your comment is correct unless you can pick up one of the "scarce" new ones, the re-modelled one I have that has a manufacturing date of October 2006 and is genuine 8 Bit. strange thing is that they must be getting more competative as the new is actually cheaper than the old. I am very pleased with mine, it is also DVi and HDCP or whatever it is also, not that I am using it as such at the moment tho.

Not pretending to be an expert obn this subject however, i assume genuine 8 Bit means genuine 16.7 Million colours as opposed to 16.2?
