I would like to see statics on the biggest games being Pirated at the same time. I honestly think that blockbuster games are not sold as much, but pirated more than anything.

It takes many years to develope a game. With the new Vista and DX10 comming out most game developers are behind and or waiting for the new WII and Playstaion 3 to become "old News"'. Before releasing new games. This new technology release also gives them time to refine what they are working on, in order to be the next "Ratchet & Clank".

So, why is it stagnant?

Because they feel they won't sell enough new games until the WII and Playstation are not new anymore.

That's your conclusion when you see a top 10? Interesting...

i think its consoles that are making the pc market stagnate.too many people buy them crappy game boxes.so that ends up been the best market with guarenteed millions of sales per game.

smash em all i say.

But you have to be realistic m8, someone with a low income is better off with a console rather than a PC. If you want to play games on a PC with good performance you need an expensive system. For the price of a graphics card you could get an XBOX360, so this would be the better choice for some people.

i know what your saying hookey:D

for people on a relativley low income, who like playing games.there a godsend.even tho' the ps3 seems expensive, say £500,compared to a decent spec machine thats chicken feed.

plus i think consoles are the gaming equivelnet of tat wash and go shampoo, you turn it on,put a disc in and play.

for a pc you have to decide were to install it to and then pick you graphics, sound and game controls.with a console you dont.

just like sexual deviants, each to your own i guess.i've nvr really bothered with consoles since i paid £1800($3500) in 1989 for a pentium 166(no mmx) with 16mb ram and a 2gb hd.it coruupted me and i nvr bothered with consoles after that.

you cant play an fps on a console tho',its just wrong somehow.

I think the PC Games market has become stagnant because they are coming with some high graphic games and large sized games too like Splinter Cell Double Agent needs 8-9 Gib Hdd Space.

I do admit I prefer PC gaming, theres nothing so sweet as owning another human player on a FPS ;)

My guess would be because developers are awaiting the arrival of DX10. Why else would they refrain from releasing games like Call of Duty 3 or Gears of War (which is a microsoft title, I might add) on the PC? They're missing out on a lot of sales with just those 2 titles. Microsoft stands to sell quite a few extra copies of Vista if they can get the developers to hold out on the new titles for a few months. Being a gamer myself, I know I'll be buying a copy, just to have DX10.

So, why is it stagnant?

Personally, I have a theory on this:

Times are TOUGH now, @ least in the U.S. by comparison to say, 6-10 years ago...

Many folks are outta work, or on jobs that may not last...

Those outta work don't have the disposable income for FUN stuff anymore (beyond bills, food, gas, etc.)...

Those on jobs they're unsure of the long-term status of, are hoarding their monies, saving just in case of a 'rainy day' imo AND, they're working SO MANY HOURS? They don't have the energy left for games, out of fear of losing their jobs? They're working themselves to death, especially salaried folks...

I've lived that 60++ hour work week (& still do @ times + travel extensively which is more time eaten to do it), OR earlier in my life, worked & went to school ontop of it, as I am sure some of you have as well on salary or as working students...

That steals the MOST precious element there is: YOUR LIFE/YOUR TIME & yes, your energy for gaming & even spending time w/ family + friends!

APK

P.S.=> I'm watching my brother do that life, NOW, & around the same age I was doing it A LOT @... it's tough! He's also pursuing his masters degree ontop of it... he gets home from working 12 hour days (& on schedules that change regarding shifts every other week, messing w/ his 'circadian rhythim/sleep patterns'), eats, showers, cleans & laundry IF needed, & then does schoolwork ontop of it & then FINALLY sleep...

I admire it in a big way, AND YES, it pays off in the end!

Still, I also warned him about it too... it DOES get to you, I've been there & done it... & even though he's reeling in 125k a year? He can't find time to date women even... shame, because he's a good looking guy, w/ his act together.

I wonder (in hindsight, lol, it's always 'beautiful') if it's worth it... It was to me @ the time I did it, & probably to he too (depends on your goals etc.)... apk

I say it because theres nothing truly original. The sims 2 and its expansions are on that chart how many places now!? BF 2142 is a MOD. Neverwinter Nights 2, Everquest 2, Call of Duty 2, Medieval 2, Flight Simulator 10. That and WoW, I just can't figure out what is so appealing about that game...

It's hard to blame the US economy on the PC gaming market, and pretty much the entire gaming market, being very 'stale' and 'used'. We have a record low unemployment rate, and by 2010 were going to have a huge economic surge, and right now, and even when our country was in a recession, we were still one of the biggest markets in the world (if not THE), and right now, the market isn't bad at all. Yes, we have had our ups and downs in the last 6-10 years, but I don't see the neighbors dragging their knuckles or chiseling letters onto stone.

There's just not enough original stuff. Companies make a game, release it and see how it takes off. If popular, they turn it into a franchise/series and run with it until its dead, and that's the problem. Too much work is put into making a game flashy so that it sells rather than into its plot or game play and making sure it ships without bugs (EA EA EA EA EA). It just gets to me sometimes, that the best games to play still are the older ones. 1942/dc final, sim city 3, sims (original), hitman1/2. FEAR was a good game, but it as short, cut short to be turned into a nice franchise/series, half life 1, kicked ass, hl2, also kicked ass, but again short. now we have more and more expansions to buy for it....

I could keep going into rant, but I'll stop here. Funny thing was is i didn't expect to see this thread a day later at 2 pages!

I say it because theres nothing truly original.

Good point that... I agree, unfortunately, because I have noted that I do NOT game nearly as much as I used to, & largely? It's due to 'boredom', & w/ my fav. genre (the first person shooter).

Could be, but it may depend on where you live & all that, because some areas ARE truly "booming" while others aren't... so, again, it's definitely a mixture of things.

LOL!

Some threads surprise me as well... & I should say that as well about 'rants'... I felt I did a couple early on today while having my coffee in the A.M. that I really could have been a BIT 'cooler' about as well!

Those happen too from my end as well, but I didn't feel you were ranting, but putting in detail & examples, so don't sweat that much, I felt it was a well-done thread response on your end & honesty too from your viewpoint, that got me to change a BIT OF MY THINKING too!
