If you want to sell something and you get a "you don't have permission to see this page" error, here's why. We have for a long time been dealing with a high volume of spam that's been posted in this forum. There are also jerks who register, sell their stuff, and then we never hear from them again. So to remind everyone that the BSTG threads are a marketplace for longtime TPU members, we've made it so that people can only post here if there account is in good standing (hasn't been banned) for 14 days. Thanks for your cooperation.
As a reminder, if you want to sell something, post your heatware (http://forums.techpowerup.com/showthread.php?t=13088), pictures of the image (with a handwritten note in the picture showing your TPU name), have a price you're willing to sell for (even if it's negotiable), and make sure to follow through with the purchase. If there are any serious complaints about a sale, please report them to the forum leaders. (http://forums.techpowerup.com/showgroups.php)

This is nice to see.
Now there will be less spam :)

.....less spam, but still lots of it. how about you just make it so folk need 50-100 posts or more before they can sell stuff in here?

Roger that! I agree.

We'll see how things work with just a 14 day restriction, if it doesn't hold, we'll work on what other kind of barriers need to be put in place before people can post in the BSTG threads (just trying to be fair to as many people as possible :)).

Because then they'll just spam to get those 50 posts they need :slap:

No offense, but I don't think you should have an opinion when it comes to prevent spam.
As to answer your question, if you set a minimal post count people will just spam to get it, hence actually getting more spam.

You vastly under-estimate how lazy the mod-crowd is. We're fine with locking the threads and banning the spammers. That way, there's only one a week or two :p.
Completely Bonkers

I think that's a really good start. But I do agree with Ketx to up the hurdle. I'd suggest 100 posts and 60 days for posting "For sale". This is NOT ebay... but a forum where established contributors/members can trade... but "trading" is not what this forum is all about. So it's OK to "put it in a corner and raise the bar".

I second ketxxx's Idea, seems normal, as the spammers would not make more spam, because a mod would ban them/close the thread ect its to much work for a spammer. Certain amount of posts/certain amount of days is awesome.

what a minute here guys, if you were a new member you would go postal with needing 100 posts and 60 days just to sell your stuff.
you would then be forced to post 100 dummy posts just to qualify so we better add a forum just for all the dummy posting to satify the quota system.
if it needs a little boost then fine, but the key word is "little". double it from 14 days to 30 days. that is all you need to do and forget about requiring a post count. one month is all you should ever need to find out if a member is for real or not.
i sometimes see "Dummy" posts with no content or comment besides the header just so a member can brag on having the highest post count. (those who do this know who they are)

The point is so people don't join for the sole purpose of selling stuff.

well you dont want to make it hard for new legit members who want to sell their stuff either.
someone joining just to sell stuff wont wait 30 days, they will just go somewhere else to sell it.
anyone who WILL go to the trouble of joining and waiting 30 days just to sell stuff will also be willing to go to the trouble of doing whatever it takes for getting around anything you set up to stop them.
limit the total number of items for sale in one post and limit it to only "x" number of threads in the forum.
dont do anything that makes it harder on new members who also would like to sell their stuff.
this site does an excelent job of keeping out spam and "if it aint broke dont fix it".
unless you do "by invitation only" to buy or sell stuff, then you cant stop it.
you do not want to require posting from someone who knows very little and has nothing to add.
if they just want to sell stuff after 30 days then let em, if the price is good then it helps our members.

I totally agree. I tried giving away my old accelero x2 and sorta knackered x1900gt a while back and was pretty much accused of being some kind of criminal hardware dealer by almost everyone. In the end someone actually did trust me and got a free cooler (I even paid for postage!), but i was close to just chucking it in the bin since even giving away free stuff is too hard these days... the kids trust no one these days.
