When I updated to beta 2 and started up my copy of Need For Speed Underground 2, I get a white box in the upper left hand corner. It seems to be ontop of the game becuase I am unable to get the cursor to display ontop of it. Is there any kind of log or debug thing I can do?

Well, it seems Sims 2 won't work either. It just does not display anything but the light purple screen. Might be something with the new D3D change.

Same thing happens to me:
Ive got an club 3d x800xl. The "HArdware Monitoring" Tab shows up in the new Beta2, but as soon as I select it, the computer crashes. (Computer freezes totally)
(Freshly Installed System, Win XP, Gigabyte k8NF-9 Mainboard, club 3d x800xl, dual sata harddisk).

By the way: Same thing happens with speedfan. Don't know it its related to the graphics card or something else.

Seems like I have the same system as the poster above.. athlon 3500+, gigabyte mainboard.
So it could be some incompability problem with the mainboard?

I have an ABIT IC7-MAX3 and when starting up the Winbond hardware monitor, my system temp
comes up at 127C, bells and whistles go off, and I have to kill monitoring that sensor.
Immediately I revert to .23b9 it goes back to normal case temp.

Everything else looks good!

I have had no luck getting ATITool Beta .24x (any .24 Beta) to work with Windows XP 64-bit Beta 2, build 3790. It says everytime that "a kernel driver must be running". AMD 64 3400, Asus A8v Deluxe mb, Sapphire 800 Pro Vivo w/ 16 pipes (ATITOOL 0.23 worked fine before I upgraded to Windows XP Beta 2; I didn't test ATITOOL Beta .42 on the earlier Windows version).

Although ATITOOL 0.23 does work with Beta 2, it immediately distorts the monitor scan to the point that I have to manually re-adjust the monitor. It shifts the raster severely to the left, and greatly reduces both the vertical and horizontal scan sizes. As soon as ATITOOL is removed the scan returns to normal.

Has anyone attempted to use ATITOOL with Windows XP 64-bit Beta 2 (Service Pack 1, v.1433)? I have used both the MS-certified drivers and the latest from ATI.

@W1zzard:

Do you have any idea yet why AtiTool crashes with the Gigabyte K8NF-9 (Nforce 4-4x) Mainboard?
Seems to be a common problem with this mainboard, since I read of it in many different forums.

As I wrote before (see last page), Speedfan has the Same Crashing problem (Computer freezes), but MBM and RivaTuner work without problems.

Can I Do anything to help you find the bug?

atitool works completely fine until you enter the hardware monitoring tab, right?

Micha76
02-21-2005, 02:15 PM
Yes. Atitool works perfectly until I enter hardware monitoring.

The most recent version of RivaTuner has hw monitoring by the way,
it shows me the temperatures (core + environment), the clock speeds
and the fan speed all totether in a large graph.
But its not as pratical as ATITOOL with the Temperature in
the tray and it has no fan control, thats why I prefer atitool :-)

the hardware monitoring tab in atitool monitors _motherboard_ temperatures .. if you want to just monitor video card temperature you wont have to use it, the "temperature monitoring" tab is for you then

i'm completely changing the hardware monitoring tab around at the moment, wait until next release, if the crash problem is still there, i'll look into fixing it ..

Oops..sorry, I didnt see this. You are right, the temp monitoring tab works, just the hardware monitoring tab freezes the pc.. so there must me the same problem with the mainboard monitoring as in speedfan.

But the Temp Monitoring & Fan Setting works great now.

Thanks!

bornonce do you have the atitool driver in your device manager? can you install debugview (google) set it to log boot and give me the atitool related messages it outputs

OK. This is my configuration. I have three Windows partitions. C is running Windows XP Home SP2, D is running Windows XP Pro 64-bit Beta 1, and F is running Winodws XP Pro 64-bit Beta 2.

I searched for every instance of atitools and deleted them all, save for the setup files. I re-installed Windows XP Beta 1 with the current ATI 64-bit drivers. I then rebooted, and installed ATITools .24 Beta 2. It couldn't find a kernel mode driver running.

I am now on Partition F with the latest ATI Beta drivers. I install ATITools .24 Beta 2. I click on "run ATITools". It says "Kernel mode driver does not seem to be running".

I can use 0.23, but for some reason it adversely effects the raster scan. This is apparent even before Windows XP even finishes loading.

As an aside, I am using the same monitor (IIyama Vision Master 450) with two other systems through a KVM switch. The other two systems are using GeForce3 cards. They display 1280x960 @ 85 Hz without a problem.

Hi

Have just installed b2 on my PC, and have noticed (rather disturbingly) that after clicking on 'Scan For artifacts' it runs for about 5 mins 30 secs before finding artefacts....

this is at STOCK XTPE speeds (519.75/560.25)   My card is a bog standard X800 XTPE (so it is meant to go that fast :))

The only thing I can think of is that I have the 'artefact scanner' set too aggressive - at the moment the slider is as far to the left as it will go - i.e directly under "More Artefacts Detected/Lower Overclock"

Where SHOULD this be set ? I want to find a happy medium... (i.e I want to run my card without being paranoid :D)

Otherwise, b2 looks great :) - in fact this isn't a b2 problem I'm sure - more like user cluelessness :o - am waiting to be enlightened.... :D

OK, I have now verified that Beta .24 2 works fine on my system when I am running Windows XP Home non 64-bit (Partition C). This is with the Catalyst 5.2 drivers. However, it does not work with either Windows XP Pro 64-bit Beta 1 or Beta 2, using the latest ATI 64-bit BETA drivers.

Hello

Temperature Monitoring works great an my Video Card ( ASUS AX800XL ) , but where is the Fan-Monitoring ?

My Fan runs on 100 % , and so itīs very noisy.

I wonīt use the "ASUS Smart Doctor Utility" , because it runs very buggy.

W1zzard I'm very glad that now NOT need to restart computer after changing videoacard, only restart ATI Tool - it's cool! ;)

may be dettach 3D View window from main window? 3D View window must be opened on currently choosen videocard?

the 3d view _should_ use the right card no matter on which screen it is .. please test this and let me know if you have any problems with it .. fyi - non ps2.0 card use a constant red background for rendering while ps20 cards use the normal more complex red/black shaded one.

when i tried with 9200 + x800 and had the 9200 selected it used the right device (pure red background + low fps) even when the rendering window was on the x800's screen

hey w1z...i have a question. you said that you were able to use a 9200 with ATITool, and there isnt TOO much of a difference in what it can do (in terms of PS, VS and hardware DirectX support). So why is it that the 9200 (RV280) can be used, but the 9000 NP (RV250) can't be used? whenever i try to use it i get a variety of errors.....using the latest beta and DX 9.0c i get "Error during Direct3D init" error message and it crashes (sometimes with the default XP error message, other times with a Memory cannot be read error). Another thing which might be related is that DirectX Diagnostics crashes now, but previously the only error I got when testing the card is "The card does not have hardware DirectX 9.0 support. This test will be skipped" message.....i find this odd and i really want to have a bit of fun with the old thing (like using RaBiT modded BIOSes). i have had this issue with BBA and OmegaDrive's (based on ATI) drivers since version 4.9. if there is anything you know of that i can do to be able to use it id greatly appreciate the info.

W1zzard you right, now no matter where 3D View window - it use choosen device and overclock choosen device.

:( but I still recieve "no init" error on my X800

when try find any max I see error message. 3D View window become yellow and after close error message ATI Tool begin downclocking like finding artifacts.

thats strange .. is that still the CCC problem you reported in beta 1?

got some questions about the more artifacts detected / less artifacts detected slide.

I've got a x800 pro with ati silencer 4 on it and before with atitool I could get 540 / 570 at least without artifacts. Now when I push the button find max core (with old method scanning) I get around 520 and with memory only around 517  . Even when throw the slide more to the right I wont get higher. Has there been some changes in artifact scanning? Cuz now with my "overclock" of 510/540 for gamez (which i've been using for months now) I immediately get artifacts when I scan for artifacts..

@W1zzard:

Standby after overclocking via atitool is now artifact-free. :)

Still not working is the custom fan control after standby:

the values are deleted and set to default after one standby. :(

Hi
First post so hope in right place. Using Beta 2 to ck new comp using the W83627THF to monitor hardware along with SpeedFan. All the temps and fan speeds read same with cpu temp and speed on sensor 2 NB on 3 and I have my PSU on sensor 1. Voltages are off with no 12v but vcore is correct on sensor 1. Using dynamic fan control which is working great and have 1 question on it are the initial settings taken from the card?

Just tried installing beta 0.24b2 on XP 64 RC2 (build 3790 or rev 1433 take your pick) and came up against the same problem that others are having. When ATI tool is run after the install I get the error about the kernel mode driver not being present.
One of the problems stems from the fact that the ATItool.ini file that gets extracted from the installer is not properly decorated for XP 64.
Modifying the driver to be properly decorated for XP 64 or just disabling the decoration requirement comes up with the second problem, windows will try and install the device (ATI Tool device) but fails when it tries to install the service. The error reported is "a service installation section in this INF is invalid". I'm not sure about the reason for this but perhaps you could get something useful from here (http://www.microsoft.com/whdc/driver/install/difxtools.mspx). Microsoft may have tightened up the rules about adding services and drivers in the same package. Aparently Microsoft are developing a version of the driver install frameworks tools for XP 64, but you have to sign up to the beta program for it. To get on the beta program log onto betaplace here (http://beta.microsoft.com) with a .net passport then use the guest ID "difxbeta". You need to fill out a survey then wait and see if you get picked. I'm not enrolling since I don't develop drivers and it would be a waste of a beta testing post if I were to be selected.

shuflie i think the .inf file is properly decorated .. what did you change?

when you install atitool click on "details" to see the log of the driver installer ..

from what i found out so far a 32-bit installer cant install a 64 bit device driver .. i'm working on a 64-bit installer now

found some bugs on my system...
Abit AN7
Athlon XP 2200+
1GB RAM
Sapphire 9600XT 128MB 500/324

there seems to be some problems with selecting profiles
when I first tried to set the speeds to 612/381, I got a blank white screen
ok, reboot
next time, I set the speeds manually to 612/381 - worked fine
now a little test, let's select the default profile again - 500/324 - messi blue/white screen, and saw some strange stuff too before that (i mean a millisecond or so before that final picture)

so, at least for now, I'll have to set manually the clocks after each reboot...

edit: oh, and btw, monitoring works fine... no problems at all...

The relevent section from the installer log is this:-

Old devices: removed
New Device Driver: could not install(E0000235)
Installing driver from ......\ATItool.inf
New device Driver: could not install(E0000235)
New device started

The last line is a bit strange since it trys to start the device even though it can install it.

What I did to try and get the driver to install was this.

I then went to the control panel and selected install new hardware which allowed me to select ATITool as a device but then failed with the error

"a service installation section in this INF is invalid"

I've been trying to see if I can find an inf file for something which does the same job your kernal mode driver but I'm finding it difficult following the structure of inf files, they jump around all over the place and us lots of sting substitutions.

On another unlreated point did you see the bug report I posted about XP 64 and the current release of ATITool? Seems to be having a few problems setting the fan speed to 100% unless I go in and manually hit the apply button, that's why I wanted to try out the beta.

E0000235 = 32bit installer cant install 64-bit driver

what if you try to install the unmodified inf file via new hardware?

do you have an instant messenger? we could try a few things

thats strange .. is that still the CCC problem you reported in beta 1?
I also think so... and try again...

unload all cli.exe from Task Manager - error
again load runtime - error
unload ALL ATI programs - Hydravision, ATI Remote - than Roxio DragtoDisc, Creative CTSysVol - error

again restart runtime and check EACH settings in driver.

Alternate pixel center!!!!!!!!!!!!! when it enable - error in FindMax, color noise in 3D View window at right and bottom edges - I check many times.

Hello, I have a quick question.. Im using ATITool to set my fan speed from 43% default to 100%.. This drops me a good 10 - 12C whileunder load.. Im curious as if this can damage my fan in anyway or hurt anything... Please let me know if it is "not healthy" for my card..thanks. :)

there is no way u can hurt your fan with 100% power (12V)

I am having some of the same problem as one of the 64bit problems, on win2k. I was running beta 1 fine, then I installed beta 2, no problem. Then when I went to run it twice, it said kernel mode is not present. So now everytime I run it, I have to install it first, again, then run it.

Ideas?

@Wizzard I dont report a problem but I just read an intersting article about ocing graphic card http://www.pc-boost.com/oc_3d_3.htm
i guess most of you guys dont understand french but it say tha t the Vgpu and the Vmem could be modified by using a software OmniExtremeEditFX
the article does it with a geforce 6800gt do u think it could be done with Ati's cards?

found some bugs on my system...
Abit AN7
Athlon XP 2200+

I have exact the same problem of the messy blue/white screen, but only when I save edited memory timings to a profile. Will the problem be fixed in the next version of ATI tool?

My system:
Asus a7v8x-mx se
AMD athlon 2400+
768 MB RAM
Sapphuire 9600 256 MB

problem more complexy - if Alternate pixel center enabled and ATI Tool driver loaded - in 3DMark05 ALSO I can see artifacts - at right and bottom edges, but not color dots - flashing color flames upto 2-3cm high(long) - please check again or think about it.

W1zzard

you mean the atitool driver causes problems in 3d applications? thats not possible

AndreyPopov

W1zzard I'm not sure, but if Alternate pixel center enabled I can see color dots at right and bottom edges of 3DView window right now after ATI Tool start? not press any button! only ATI Tool start - color dots at right and bottom edges of 3DView window.

if Alternate pixel center enabled and I start ATI Tool only to load overclock profile - than in 3Dmark05 flashing color flames at right and bottom edges (in 3DMark03 flshing thin lines). disable Alternate pixel center - no in 3Dmark05 flashing color flames.

or may be it is fault of Catalyst?

but if not start ATI Tool any way after windows started - no in 3Dmark05 flashing color flames.

I'm not sure which fault - I only want solve problem.

first I write to you about color dots 13.10.2004 0.0.23b7.

have an ATI 9500 Pro flashed to 9700 Pro. With AtiTool 0.24 Beta 2, when I find max memory, the screen becomes very corrupt and distorted. However, when I find max core, it seems to work just fine. Any ideas?

Your memory can't handle the overclock, have you tried increasing the memory slider manually in very small increments then scanning for artifacts? If the screen becomes corrupt with even the smallest ammount of memory overclock then you are out of luck, unless you try putting heatsinks on the memory chips and making sure there is good airflow over them (one way to do this is to remove the sidepanel and point a desk fan at the card). If extra cooling doesn't help then you may need to perform a voltmod on the card, but this is dangerous and if you don't do it properly you will permenantly damage your card.
EDIT: It I was you I would just be thankful that I had a card that was already performing well above it specifications and was still able to be pushed further on the core speed. You just have to know the limitations of you hardware and accept them.

I have an asus 9600pro with hardware monitoring (asus smart doctor and ati tray tool are showing the same temp) but AtiTool 0.24 beta 2 reports no hardware monitoring supported.

Device manager shows atitool utility as installed.

PLS help!

PS : I am a huge fan of AtiTool :D

what does the log file says about temperature chip detection? what's your card's device id? i thought 9600 pro has no temp monitorign support at all

I have tested a sapphire 9600pro atlantis advantage and a gigabyte 9600pro both with 4 ns mem and none of the had hardware monitoring. Asus 9600pro has 3.3 ns mem and hardware monitoring (the rv350 gpu coller has 3 wires ;) ) .

When i try to accces hardare monitoring tab from AtiTool settings it crashes.

I am at work now  . Tomorrow i will give you more details.

shuflie,

I found a work around for my issue. I noticed I had the best luck with 0.22, so I used 0.22 and found the max memory. I didn't have any problems and the screen didn't become corrupt like it did with 0.23 and later. However, to support what you said, the increase in memory was minimal. It went from the default of 270 to 273.38. I took note of it, and removed 0.22 and installed 0.24 beta 2, found max core and used the max memory that I found in 0.22. With that setting, the system seems to be pretty stable as of yet
