need a laptop so i can wirelessly "monitor" my freebsd network. obviously nothing fancy needed although an s-video out would be nice. a wifi card is a major plus cause i wont have to buy an addon card. let me know!

I have an old Compaq with a K6 in it. The "r" key does not work, and it does not have wireless. I would let it go for way less than 150.

perhaps you have a model number so i could check it out to see if the hardware is compatable with freebsd. do you know of a place that could repair the "r" key? could a wireless card be added to one of the side ports?

doubt it :D

get a REALLY cheap keyboard for it off ebay whether it need be installed, or a USB keyboard that you can plug in when you need it

The laptop is currently running DSL right now... Also, battery, no charge, 1 usb port, ONLY 1 port for the wireless card. All markings of text have been stripped off, as it is painted white.

batery still works ('bout an hour and a half might be more)
the o key is missing a replacement can be had on ebay for 40 ~50
it has a mini pci for modem but no builtin antena so the signal might suck if u use it for wireless

Get one of those silly colorful keyboards which you can roll off eBay, they're like 8 Dollars.
Some day I should buy me some cheap laptop as well. When I have cash or something.

Rhino - I have a Dell Lattitude 1 Ghz P3, SXVGA screen, has PCMCIA port and I have a Linksys wireless card for it. I think it's got 256MB memory. PM me if you are interested and I'll mail you the service tag number later when I look at it at home. It's a little scratched up, but works great. Price negotiable, OS would not be included :(

Depending on what you get, a USB 802 dongle works great too (which is what I was actually using with it for a while).

Are you still looking Easy? If so, I have a Sony Vaio FX200. It has 2 PCMCIA port, but no build in wireless, and I don't have a wireless card for it.

1GHz PIII-M
256MB of RAM
40GB Hard Drive
15" Screen is in great condition
Keyboard is in great condition
I has a practically brand new aftermarket battery and the original Sony battery, and it has slots for both batteries, so they both can be in the laptop at once(but you have to take the floppy drive out to do this).
It has a DVD-ROM/CD-RW combo drive
Obviously it has a good power supply

The down side is that it will randomly not turn on, particulary after it has been running for a long time and is restarted, it can take 5-10 attempts to get it to post, which is why I rarely use it anymore. Also when a PCMCIA card is plugged into the second PCMCIA slot the sound stops working for some reason. Also the onboard 56K modem doesn't work, but I have a 56K PCMCIA card(but I am not sure where the dongle is for the card, I'll look for it if you want the laptop).

If you want it make an offer.
