View Full Version : Why do I get no FPS gain in my games when I OC my card?

I do get approximately 225 points higher in 3dmark06 when I OC from default 500/500 to 550/631. However this does not result in any FPS gain in either GTR2 or GTL, which seems very strange to me:confused:

Any ideas?:banghead:

225 Points in 3DMark06 hardly make any difference in performance :respect:

but why?:o hmmm OC ing the video card seems pretty pointless then. I doubt I could go much higher even with a different bios. Better to OC the CPU I guess.

To get more gain in FPS, you need 'pixel shader three'. Therefore a better card!

I should see at least some improvement I think going from 500/500 to 550/631:wtf:

you did, you got 255 points more, but no fps increase!

Have you tried overclocking your CPU aswell m8? Youve got an Artic Cooler so your A64 3700+ should overclock really well ;)

Maybe your system (CPU, or RAM) is bottlenecking in the game so you OC your gfx card for nothing.

Just a possibility.

maybe the 2x512 crucial ballistix 2-2-2-6? I don't think it's the cpu(3700+)...what do you think?

bring the clock up on the cpu... can you post actual fps stock/vid card oc/cpu&vid card oc..
would/should see 5/7% from stock to full oc

I:banghead: am working on figuring out how to OC the cpu...I can't seem to lower the ram speed down to 166 like I want to.

500/500 to 550/631

core - 10% increase
mem - 3~5% (based on x850xt pe clocks)

you can only expect 15% at best more power from the card.
you should look for review benchamrks using your card and try to reach those levels.

I get the same FPS(min, max and average) in the 2 test games GTR2 and GTL...with it set to 500/500 and 550/631

The framerates I get are fine with the new system..I just want to know why I see no real-life improvement after overclocking the card?

What are the FPS you are getting? Do you have frame-sync on?

ny_driver

frame sync off and I get 40-50 fps approx.

10% of 40 fps is 4 frames xtra
10% of 70 fps is 7 frames xtra

some game effects are cpu bootlenecks usualy shadows.

With my system I get no lower than 140/fps in gtr2 with everything maxed out, its greattttt ;)
