Hey TPU, I've got a question to ask, is the ZM-NBF47 Northbridge heatsink better than the stock one on my DFI Infinity 975X/G? Also I have a CNPS7700CU Installed on the motherboard so would it have installation issues?

Wtf... *Bump*
Think you'll just have to look at your mobo and do a good guestimate on whether you have room or not.

I don't know. Do you think your Northbridge gets to hot? What kind of temps are you getting off it? If it doesn't get to toasty, and you aren't having any issues with it, don't get one.
Theres always the other kinds that Zalman do.I have the ZM-NB47J on my AN7 which does a good job.Beats the heck out of the stock NB cooler fan which failed on me.
One things for sure you do need something on it to cool it.Maybe you could go for one of the other coolers they do,then if it does clash you could just nibble off a pin or two to make it fit.

It would probably fit. Remember ever 10*C Hotter a component gets, it fails 2x quicker.
Is 45*C Toasty? I'm using a hook type retention (yay its so easy to uninstall). I got some Arctic Silver 5 as well.
aftermarket northbridge cooler ;o
overclicking your northbridge? lol

Well, doesn't increasing NB Voltage help overclocks? I know I had to raise my NB voltage, which made it a bit hotter...but higher clocks.

DUDE... I meant in terms of cooling performance man. I want my system to last.

I'm using a Thermaltake Extreme Spirit II and my NB runs about 40.5 with my oc. It's about 3 to 5 degrees cooler than with the stock cooler. This is on a ds3 mb. It sucks to install though, gotta remove mb.

If you're not doing any serious overclocking, then there isn't much need for it. The motherboard will last more than long enough to become obsolete anyway.

So you guys live off stock Northbridges these days? Wha?
Oh yeh btw, IMHO I don't think the Zalman would be better than my stock one since it has the same amount of dissipation area anyway, they are both also aluminium 100%.

I have 680i board, the stock cooler is pretty good. It's at about 40 to 45C depending whats going on, I have yet to put AS5 on it. I just think it's too much of a pain to take it off heh

if you think it's getting too hot ;)

After putting on some AS5... no decrease in temps... its probably the weather though.. 40*C...

i have the sli version on my dfi nf4 ultra d and temps went down from 50c to 34c idle and 38c load. only thing to worry about is the retention clip is a little flimsy and you have to be careful in your case not to bump it.

i have the hr-05sli and it works great. using the hr-05 (regular one) you would see a good temp drop.

are you using a fan on it?

I have a DFI Lanparty UT NF4 SLI-DR Expert with Athlon 64 2X 4600+ and am running it in a Coolermaster HTPC slimline case. The current heatsink/fan on the northbridge is not sufficient to cool it, so have replaced it with a Zalman ZM-NBF47J, which has brought the chipset temp down from 65 C to 45 C which has done some good for my intermittent locking up problem. So I'd say, in my case, using a non-ideal casing, the Zalman unit was ideal.

I don't know if that hold true or not. Maybe for every 10deg over it's rated operational range maybe?
EDIT - oops I forgot the responce... My Intel 975xbx2 north went from 55 to 38 just adding a small fan on it. ...and it lights up blue to match the cpu. =)

thats because that standard dfi nf4 nb cooler is horrible - noisy, cheapskate and ineffective. i hate my bro's pc for that reason alone.
although when i artic'ed it it works better now

Your right about the noisy standard cooler, the noise was also part of the reason why I opted for the Zalman cooler. Not good to have a HTPC and have a horrible fan noise coming from inside.
