Ok, I'm looking for data safety, not so much performance.

I'd like to have my boot drive a single non-raid drive (Drive C: )

Second, I want my second drive (Drive D: ) to be data and Raid 1 - two redundant Sata IDE drives.

So here are the questions (I have a Gigabyte DQ6 motherboard):

Is is possible to have the RAID drives not be the boot drives?

In that scenario, if I was to take out one of the Raid 1 drives and hook into a normal SATA plug, would the partitions/volumes/data be recognized?

Of course. Just set the single drive as bootdrive in the BIOS and install Windows (or whatever OS) on it.

Of course. Just set the single drive as bootdrive in the BIOS and install Windows (or whatever OS) on it.

Sounds simple enough, but looking through the manual only shows setting the boot drive priority between CD/DVD, USB, Floppy and HDD (one HDD option) - I couldn't find where the Sata RAID vs. Single Drive boot was controlled, even in the Raid BIOS section.

Also, any insights into the last question?

I'm not near the 'puter in question, apologies.
