I've had this happen a few times, searched pc with every virus scanner and still happens. Basically for a few seconds my computer will freeze, I won't be able to move my mouse and out of my speakers I hear like a mumbled radio (I guess kind of like a trucker radio if I could describe it) then it passes and everything back to normal. Any idea on what this is?

I used to get that with my old pc. Always thought it was my soundblaster Audigy 2 or my cheap 2.1 speakers.
When I put together my current PC it went away. So it could have been any of those two things, drivers, or hard drive.

As far as spyware, use a couple of programs - I use Adaware and spyblaster.

Download any updates to the software

Boot into safe mode (hit F8 before WinXP logo, or unplug your PC while its booting)

And run checks from safe mode. I bet it will find some more spyware it couldn't find in normal windows

Doubt it means you have a trojan, just sounds like it's checking a big file. I would recommend using a Firewall that blocks outbound traffic such as ZoneAlarm or Comodo (unless you already have good firewall software) and use that to ensure that nothing unknown is getting through. The build in windows firewall does not block outbound traffic.

How would checking a big file create a persons voice over your speakers that sounds like a trucker on a CB radio?

Lol, my bad - didn't read the whole post clearly, I think my brain skipped a line! Yeah, that is quite wierd, never known something like that before, I just read about the PC freezing and thought it wasn't too strange. :slap: to me

Edit: that would freak me out. I'd back up any files I needed to keep and then format myself - I doubt it is anything serious but I would worry that it could be a trojan and want it out straight away. The risk would just be too big for me.

It might not be the speakers, but the harddrive he is hearing. And when its scanning a huge file, or an infected file, or anything out of the ordinary, your pc can stop responding for a little bit. Not uncommon. If all virus scanners and adware scanners say nothing is there, a good clean and defrag should help him out.
