Okay, does anyone have a good explanation why some X850 Pro cards are clocked at 507/520 core/memory while others (even from the same maker) are clocked at 500/500? Do the 500/500 cards have tighter memory timings, resulting in equivalent performance to the 507/520 cards?

It seems strange to me that makers can sell cards running at two different speeds under the exact same brand name, with no means of distinguishing between them. The X800GTOs (which can have different cores under the hood) aren't quite the same, since the only difference between the different cores is their overclockability--when used in the manner endorsed by the maker (i.e. stock speeds) an R430 GTO and an R480 GTO work identically.
