Ok i'm sure you all are getting tiered of me posting new threads about what cpu fan i should get. I have had a zalman 9700 an nmediapc fan and i even went water cooling (oh and it sucked big hairy monkey balls!)

So i am thinking of getting the arctic silver cooler pro 7 i can get it oem on new egg for $14 or retail for $29

How well does it perform? i am again stuck with my stock fan and i'm idle at 48c again so i got to get something.

What does the retail come with? because if it's only thermal paste, then i am going to get the oem and get some as5

Thanks for all your help!!

You have a Zalman 9700 and you want something else???? WTF?? The 9700 cools as efficiently as some medium range water cooling systems.

true but i had to leave my side panel open and that i hated it. so i took it back. I got the arctic silver cooler pro 7 so we will see how it does,

um depends on what review you read some say the Zalmans better some say the Arctic freezer pro is better they are close in performance but not in price plus at full speed the Arctic cooler is almost slient where the Zalman is not And the freezer cost about 25.00 retail but a Zalman can be near 60.00 this is the best cpu cooler made and the easiest to install compared to a Zalman or Typhoon the Scythe Infinity But for the Price its a Arctic Frezer Pro Freezer. Here is a review on the Sycthe. They compare the Sycthe to water cooling in performance http://www.techpowerup.com/reviews/Scythe/Infinity/1 here is one on the freezer http://techgage.com/article/arctic_cooler_freezer_64_pro/2

The freezer pro is EXCELLENT. But it is not quiet unless it has thermal control. So what is more important to you?

Here are some BIG TIPS

1./ A (silent) rear-exit case cooler is QUIETER than a fast CPU cooler. So better to combine a silent case cooler and a silent CPU cooler than to have a big fat noisey CPU cooler alone. It also keeps other temps down inside the case making less work for the GPU fan.

2./ If you have a mATX case, or a nearly full case, then there is too much restriction to air inflow. Get a metal drill and drill LOTS of holes in the BOTTOM of the case... where no one can see them. Then put slightly larger feet on the case, so that it is 2cm or more off the floor.

3./ Make sure your exit fan is clear of restrictions... most cases need modification. Cut a COMPLETE hole, and use a fan protector. Don't leave the fan to blow air against lots of small holes where, in fact, there is only 50% "open window"

These 3 tips will mean you can put your case sides back on again ;)

I'm proud of you lemon great idea about holes in the case bottom and you said all this while being nice . Also my Arctic Cooler my not be silent but its really very hard to hear. The scythe is a monster heat sink but its supposed to be even quieter than an Arctic cooler.

The Scythe unit is a bit of a beast. Would be very impressive in a clear case. Unfortunately, the second review with the AC Freezer 64, the comparison is with the Zalman 9500 and not the 9700. Same design, but the 9700 is larger and has a larger fan. I have the Zalman 9700, and it is very dear in price, and is very quiet if you don't have the fan set on full throttle.

i think you should stick with the 9700pro, it would beat the ac anyday in the same conditions

well i did try turning my fans i had two coming in and one blowing out. the one going out was sucking air strait out the case. the two going in was one directly in front of the zalman fan and one in the front of my case. I couldn't add more fans unless i modded the case which i didn't really want to do. So i decided i would take it back and get me a something else

You should try two fans sucking out and 1 fan (if you have to have anything blowing into the case at all) blowing in. High pressure in the case also leads to high temperature. Having lower pressure (hence two fans drawing air out) inside the case will cool things down.
