I know Demon is active in the UK, they were a great provider in .nl. (they're bought by another now) Obviously this doesn't mean they're great in the UK as well per se.

I've been usin' telewest blueyonder for about three years, I have not had one problem with them. I'm getting 4mb downstream and 384kb/sec upstream for £25 per month @ unlimitted usage.

They are doing special deals @ the moment:

4mb for £17.99/per month for the first year, then £25 pound after
2mb for 10/per month for the first year, then £17 pound after

Also Bethere broadband are offering 24mb downstream and 1.3mb upstream, with unlimitted usage @ £24 per month: however they probably wont give you the same customer support as telewest as they are a new company https://www.bethere.co.uk/

ntl are rock solid, plus there the only other firm in the uk to have there own network and its fully digital too.

if you use bt, virgin, easynet, aol, etc... they all piggie back bt's service. they may have there own servers, but they still have to use bt's exchanges

NTL are good, they have merged with telewest..same company, but telewest has better deals:P

aside from ntl and telewest you just cancelled the only true unlimited isp in the uk, all others have fair usage policys (most set out clearly others are hidden so beware) or download limits in place, again most are set out clearly others are more tricky and look like unlimi8ted packages, fyi stay away from tiscali, carphone warehouse, orange,bt and pipex like the plague i would say go with a isp that has its limits set out clearly this way you know what your peak times are and how much you can download as apposed to a fup which doesnt specify any limits but uses the term excessive usage (that could be anything ? 5gb ?)

www.ispreview.co.uk thats a goiod source of information.

good luck with your new isp, good ones are hard to come across.

edit: why did you cancel aol btw ? i know the customer services arent the best (indian call centres etc) but i have them for over 3 mths now and constantly get download speed in excess of 500Kb/s at all times of the day, youll be hard pressed to get those constant speeds on another isp if your a heavy downloader
