So I know exactly how to do it, just load up nTune and go change it. The thing is, I can't seem to make it stick. It'll OC, but if I restart I would have to OC it again once I am back. On Coolbits back on my 7800GT I never had that problem. Does anyone know if I am missing an option or something?

Dont use these stupid In-Windows Programs..
Download the latest Nvbitor( 3.2 ver )...
Load your cards Bios...
Edit it with the OC you want......
Then Save it into a boot disk...
Place the latest Nvflash ( 5.38 ver ) in that same boot disk too....
Restart...
Choose as boot device the drive A...
Flash the bios with the: Nvflash -4 -5 -6 *.rom...
Youll get much greater speeds with a bios OC , not to mention no compatibility problems in windows :)
Good luck ;)

SAVE YOUR ORIGINAL BIOS for reflashing purposes

An alternative to Bios flashing is to use the latest version of ATI tool. It will allow you to set your clock speed and retain it. Just put ATI tool in the start up folder when you are done and every time window starts, ATI tool will start as well.

Or use RivaTuner? make sure "use alternative startup deamon" is enabled then that overides default startup settings.

Both AtiTool and Rivatuner can create incompatibilities in windows , not to mention that they cant reach the clocks of a bios OC...
Generally speaking a bios OC is better in every aspect.

no one is saying a BIOS flash isnt good but to test for stability i would use an in windows app till he knows the thing can handle the higher speeds

Exactly, it's foolish and dangerous to best guess a maximum stable overclock and write to BIOS first off.

every card is different i looked at reviews on my card (Ti4200 64mb) average oc is 300/580 mine does 340/600 on the stock cooler  his may go higher lower or it may be right but that doesnt make up for the fact that some cards oc better/worse than others

Well unless I can do the bios flash from a usb drive, it ani't happening, no floppy and no way im installing one either. I think should be able to do it from a usb drive though.
The last thing I want is to have a program starting with windows, that's just annoying. I know my card can handle about 640/900 from the stock 513/792. It can probably go higher but I haven't tried.
How to I save my cards current bios before I flash it? And what are the dangers of flashing the card?

nvbitor has an option to save the BIOS and after you flash it downsides are a bad flash (if you have spare card you just boot to that and flash the 8800 back)

Ok well I will do a little reading up to feel more comfortable, and do some more software testing to find a good clock to flash too. When its all done, ill let you know how it went. Probably by thursday or so. Damned school heh

Ok so I haven't flashed it yet, though I have everything set for flashing. I figured out how to use profiles on nTune....except its terrible because it locks up the system. I messed around with ATiTool and Rivaturner, and set Rivaturner to OC the card at start up. Currently running it at 620/1000, it was the highest I could get with no artifacts, I could go higher and it would be stable, but would artifact, so I figure leave it like this a few days and if it stays good, then flash it.
