Not a lot of technical info available on that subject. Most reccomend that a Max temp of 40 to 45 celcius is normal under High load (gamming for hours). The idea of touching it to see if its hot, is realy not accurate. If you think its runing HOT then add a 20-30mm fat to the heatsink by screwing a couple knife blade crimp connectors to the screw mounting holes and spreading the connector out to silde over/onto fins of heatsink. Make sure nothing is touching any other parts. Or, get a northbridge cooler w/fan. For the most part factory thermal 'pads' are not that good. You can always replace them with AS5, to improve cooling. Just be carful as there is normaly no heatspreader/sheild over the northbridge circuit; and it is easy to get to much thermal paste on unprotected components of the chip. Just be carefull and do not use too much thermal paste ( 1/3 of a BB sized spot should be enough!)

I've had mine running at 65 C, with heaps of problems with lockups, and that's without any OC'ing. I reckon a safe temp is under 50 C.

Mine runs 40-46*C with ease. It used to crack 50*C until I laped the heatsink and applied silver compound. The thermal paste is terrible, it looked like frozen bubblegum.
