My old PC kicked the bucket so I built a new one.

Foxconn nforce 590
evga 8800gts
2gb corsair dominator pc6400
ocz 600 watt
amd x2 4200+
2x seagate HDD's (1x 250 and 1x300)
sony DVD burner

When I first built the rig I'd blue screen and have to reinstall the OS if I tried to go with windows SP2. I still haven't gotten around that issue, so I'm on SP1, and everything works fine, except for...

I'll randomly drop my connection. Web pages won't load, downloads stop, IRC disconnects. This happens anywhere from 10 mins, to 3 hours after I logon. What's odd is that task manager shows verizon online still connected, and both lan ports are operational.:wtf: When I try to connect again it goes through, task manager shows two instances of verizon online, and yet I still can't connect to a web page or anything.

The only way out is to restart the machine and connect again, and cross my fingers that it takes longer this time.

Any thoughts?

So you're connecting via LAN instead of a USB modem? Does that need the software in order to run? Most ISPs will let you connect via ethernet without needing any extra software. Try updating your network card drivers.

The modem is ethernet so it's the standard cat 5 cable out of the lan port and into the modem. In the case of 590 boards you have dual ports.
