Like it says on the tin really! My new Western Digital 'WD1600AAJS' SATA2 HDD seems very slow and lags my system when I access it :( Ive checked and my ASUS A8V-VM motherboard supports SATA 3.0gbps so it should work fine  Ive updated the VIA K8M890 Northbridge & VT8251 Southbridge drivers on the motherboard but still no success in sorting the problem :o

What should I try next

RMA. Three letters RMA... when HDDs do that, there is probably a bad sector.

Download a test Utility from the WD site, but it sounds faulty to me.

Three letters. RMA. PIO.

Edit: Not for sure though. Is PIO mode even available on SATA? :wtf:

All sorted......I popped a jumper on (which made it SATA 1.5Gbps) and all is fine :D I can now transfer a 7.5GB file from one drive to the other in about 3 mins ;)

Does this mean you have to use your SATA 300 drive at SATA 150 speeds on an Asus A8V-VM?

I'm only asking, because I'm in the process of ordering a new drive for the same mobo right now, and I don't want to waste the money on SATA 2 if there won't be any performance boost.

Thanks
