View Full Version : safe to touch ram modules
is it safe to touch the ram modules, i'm giving them 2.3 and i would like to know if they're hot without burning them, so is it safe to touch it while the pc is turned on? :)
thanks

Your RAM chips will remain safe unless you've just finished petting a long haired cat (static) and/or eating a nice greasy pepperoni pizza (you'll short things out). Your hand though, might get a bit hot if you leave it there for too long. RAM chips are generally okay to touch (don't reccomend it though), as long as you're only touching the chips and not the little metal thingies coming off the side.
touch the case 1st to make sure your not carrying and charge
ive done it before
forgot to say i will touch the ramsink (the litle metal thing) not the chips
is it safe?
btw, quick answers :toast:

i've touched my heatsinks real quick to check temp before and nothings gone wrong, i usually touch the case first just to be safe

I've manhandled nearly every part of my computer when it was set up on the kitchen table without a problem. RAM, video card, power regulators, they've all been fondled numerous times while the system was on and running windows.
Do ground yourself before you touch, though.
thanks
if i don't post soon my ram has died :ohwell:
well they're a biy hot after 6 minutes of orthos :ohwell:
guess i will have to lower voltage, it's at 2.3
btw, my dvd-r gives me electric shocks :wtf:

I burnt the hell out of my pointer finger on some overlocked DDR on a radeon 9600. Safe, but not advisable.

Hmm, I didn't think that RAM got that hot. After reading this, I am getting an irrestible urge to touch my ram and find out .

It was some crappy hynix at around 500 mhz. It was a 256mb card, so maybe the higher density of the memory chips created more heat?
