Ok, so i have never messed with overclocking a CPU, and in this paragraph I don't really want to overclock my computer, just set it to what it should be.
Anyways, every since i had this new motherboard put in, my system specs on my CPU is reading 1.25 ghz. And I know that is reallly slow. I know an AMD Athlon 2800+ stock should be a little higher than that right? So i went to my BIOS and my multiplier is set to 12.5, and my freq. is like 100mhz.
Check out the pics to see the full details, and please tell me everything i need to know about what i can set my CPU to, with stock fans, and have none what so ever heating problems. So basically I just want to boost this CPU a little, and not burn it up, but i really don't know what I am doing, and I am giving this computer to my parents, because I get my new gaming build tommorow. So I would like this one to be actually running when I get
done. lol
Any help would be great,
CPU-Z Pics..I hope these help

Ok, on an Athlon XP board, there will be a jumper to set the FSB. Currently, yours is set to 100MHZ, which is WAYYY off for that CPU. Find it and set it to auto. That CPU should go to 2.1GHZ with ease.

Could you please find me a picture of my board (the type of board is in system specs) and post what jumper i would probably need to move it to.
thanks

Well, the damn Asrock site is acting up and I cant get the manual. Try just going into the bios and setting everything to auto.

what all can be set on auto except for the freq.? I went in there last night ,and the auto for the frequency was like 100mhz like i said. I dunno why, it is like my CPU is underclocked or something.

2800 should beable to run at 200fsb without much effort, i have 3 2600+'s at 2.3gz(aprox 3400+ clocks for xp chip)
166 should be "stock" clock really i would take what i could get if you can get 200 clocks then do it, every little bit helps :) and with axp its quite safe as long as you have 1/2 decent cooling :D tho that boards via based so duno if its rated for 200fsb or not(i hate via HATE HATE HATE)

I tried setting the frequency to 166 last night in the bios, and went to boot and no BOOT!! I got scared at first but i just reset CMOs and all was good. Do you have to change the ram speed too, to be able to change the CPU clocks themselves?

shouldnt have to, you may need to up the vcore, some asrock boards set it to low, this isnt uncommon at all, try 1.6v see if that helps

Remember i really dont know how to do any of this, and have no experience, so where would I go, and please explain EXACTLY, (I say that because i get paranoid when told indirect instructions) where to go and what to do, timings and all.
And do you know if it will hurt my computer in any way? Because I really don't want to mess this computer up. Thanks. Ohh I have all stock cooling by the way also, nothing special.

shouldnt hurt anything eather it will be stable or you will have to reset cmos again and try diffrent settings, your not likely to do any harm to your system by setting the clocks up, and id ont have that board, so i cant give exect instructions on overclocking it, you could try rebelshaven for help somebody there may have first hand exp with that board.

well, i have to probably wait until tommorow before I will get any replies. Well just see then i guess. But just a quick question. if I do just set my CPU, (which I already tried and didn't post) do I have to change ram to just so say, keep up with it? like mhz wise? That is the only way I can explain it, lol. And that brings me to the point, is that why it didn't boot? Was my ram not the same speed as my CPU, is that why it didn't boot, or do i need to set the volts up a little bit.
let me know please

I don't know how to set my ram at a lower devider, lol. Man I told you I know nothing about this stuff, lol. But I am going to head out for the nite, hopefully you can continue to help me out on this issue tommorow Ashen you definately seem to know what you are doing. I don't get off of work and school until about 5:30 so I will be on tommorow nite around that time, hopefully we can continue on this topic.

OK SlipSlice sorry didnt get back to you on other thread but had to do long stretch at work.
I take it that the pic you posted here (http://forums.techpowerup.com/showthread.php?t=24066) is not your actual board.
Anyway:
If you look at page 7 of manual you will see FSB jumper's location on board(No. 8) and page 13 tells you how to set them for 166(333)MHz.Yours is probably on 1&2,needs to be on 2&3.
Also page 23 tells you how to set CPU Host Frequency and DRAM Frequency to Auto in the bios.
Hope that helps:)
Also attached manual if you didnt get it.

Thanks man, that worked perfectly, and took about 2 seconds, lol. I went to BIOS, and check it, and now it is back what it should be 2.083 ghz..not stock for an Athlon XP 2800+ heh. :)
Well thanks for the help bro. Just one more question. What would i do now if I wanted to overclock it from stock speeds? I don't think I am going to do it, but it would be nice to at least know how.

No probs..
2.09Ghz is stock for your Barton, but as for overclocking, your board only supports 333MHz and multiplier is locked on CPU so dont think you will grt much more out of it.
But hey you gained 800Mhz in about 2 seconds so enjoy :)
You could try google for your board and CPU and see if anyone else has got more out of them.

well thats not nesserly true about the cpu being multi locked, i have 2 2600 bartons here that are unlocked and a 2800 in my fathers works machien thats unlocked, frys had whole palits of them that where unlocked.,
tho the 2700 tbred-b (sempy and a64 same thing) where unlocked more commonly ;)
he may have a multi unlocked chip but with an asrock board who knows if he would beable to change the multi :P
