Which will give a graphics card better performance overall?
1.)a higher core +lower mem
2.)a lower core+higher mem
3.)similar speeds on both core+mem
Also, which will generate more heat overall? the core or the memory?
Jus a question from a beginner...
Thanks,

Memory must stay higher than core, if not the card will crash.

Depends on what you are doing
lower core+higher mem
Games/other things use memory Video Cards for one.
higher core +lower mem
Desktop work
similar speeds on both core+mem
What you want in a ways

A higher core will give you better performance at lower resolutions with no AA, higher memory speed will give you better performance at higher resolutions or if you using AA,So it depends on you resolution and AA settings

i just overclock most to the max, its not normal that on a video card that the memory is held back because of the ram,or because of the gpu! its not like overclocking a cpu!!!the most common thing people are held back by is the voltages!!!

Nope.
The core/memory is on an internal divider. hell... you can run the core at 600, and the memory at 100 and it still works!
The core will generate more heat though, so if you're more worried about heat, then you could run the core slightly slower, but if you're playing a game with a high resolution and high texture settings, you will benefit from faster memory.
I just run my cards 10mhz off the maximum for both core and memory. keep it simple!
