Just like it says. I've had two motherboards, two cables and two drives. All give me the same problem. Tech support and I have come to the same conclusion. EVGA 680i SLI motherboards and Lite-On IDE drives DO NOT WORK TOGETHER! Just thought I'd pass it on.

Will a bios flash fix this, on the cd drive or the mobo?

I flashed to the newest bios on the MOBO with nothing. I don't know if Lite-on even knows about this to release new firmware. EVGA didn't know about it until about 5 minutes ago.

LOL too bad. I would try to see if they resolve this in the future.

I'm sending the DVD Drive back and going out and buying one. I don't have time to wait for newegg to ship. This one better work. Obviously I'm avoiding lite-on.

lol...same problem with my evga board...and that is the old school evga. I tried installing MCE and it kept on looping the install with a lite-on cd-rom...then i switch to my external plextor and that worked fine.

Yeah, I went out and bought a sony drive because I just wanted to get the dumb thing running. It works fine. EVGA officially hates lite-on, which makes me unhappy. Good news is that newegg refunded my money and told me to keep the drive...which I have no use for.

It's a regular old DVD Drive. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16827106028

It would probably cost them more to deal with the return than the drive is worth.

Lite-On makes a good drive, but now I am glad I went with my trusted Sony brand when I built my system. Oddly enough, I know a lot of Sony drives are actually Lite-On drives originally, so if the DRU-820A is originally a Lite-On drive then maybe this all comes down to firmware.

EDIT: It seems the DRU-820A is actually a BenQ drive...

I'll give ya 10 bucks for it ? (wait... 15 bucks, I pay extra 5 bucks to cover the shipping).

What does E-IDE mean ? My MOBO is K8MM-V not sure if it will work......

It just means enhanced IDE. Your board should be able to support it. It certainly supports E-IDE. E-IDE has been around for a long, long time now. Long before any K8 processor ever hit the market. Heck, even before a K6. It goes back to....1994 I think. Those were the 486 years. Sad to think I used to think the 486's were amazingly powerful. Of course that could be because my first computer was a 286 running at a killer 16MHz. Oh...and it had turbo mode. Once I hit that button, it had to hit at least 50.0GHz. It also upped the pitch of the system speaker, which of course made gaming (pac-man, space invaders) better than anything my x1950XT could EVER dish out. How I ended up talking about my early days I'll never know, but anyway, are you in the US?

By the way, how on earth would I do a firmware update when I can't connect it to my computer? I'd have to go home and connect it to another computer (the old x800, athlon XP system) to see if it works.
