Ok, I had my computer up and running for the first time last night and everything seemed fine. I installed windows, played a few games for a little while and everything seemed fine. PCWizard was telling me that my motherboard was at something like 185c, but I thought that was totally impossible. Well, I noticed my X1950XT was running at around 52-55c idle, so I figured I'd run 3dmark05 to check how hot it got under load. Well, in the middle of firefly forest, my monitor shut off. I tried to restart, but it didn't give me a boot code. The fans spun and the x1950xt's two LEDs both came on. The LEDs are marked T_FAULT and EXT_POWER. I thought it was the card, but I thought the lack of a boot code was strange. I removed the card and the same thing happed. Fans and no boot code. The motherboard should at least come on and give a boot code with no card attached. Anyone have any ideas?

I think you might have killed something?

CMOS? Yes. Twice. I have no idea, I didn't get much time to look. PCWizard just said "motherboard". I wasn't getting any beeps, which I imagine I would get if it overheated that much. Actually I'd probably get a pop, as in something exploding.
try one stick of ram see if that works

Did that already. Same problem. I posted this same thing on EVGA's forum and they directed me to a thread that basically says "--" = RMA. YAY!

I hate to say it, but RMA it. I have had to RMA my 680i to eVGA once already, and it is looking like I will be doing it again because I get some BIOS message that no one at eVGA seems to have ever seen before.
 i was thinking that, cuz can you check the ram, card, cpu on another mobo to make sure they work?

I'm going home (as opposed to away at college) today, so I'll have all my tools/cables and a lot more room at my disposal this weekend. If everything works on the other motherboard, I'll use it. Of course, the big typhoon's backplate will NOT come off of the old motherboard. Hopefully they'll accept it.

This is enough to make my head explode. I took the new motherboard and did a desktop install. Just installed one stick of ram, the power switch (didn't feel like using a screwdriver), the video card, all needed power, and a harddrive. It worked just fine. Well, I took the motherboard that wasn't working out and put the new one back in. Guess what? No post. I almost had a heart attack. After unhooking things one by one I discovered that the reset switch on my thermaltake armor is causing all of this!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I unhook that, viola! No problems. It is hooked in correctly. I now have to put the OLD board back in again. Now, how on earth the reset switch started causing problems in the middle of 3dmark05 I'll never know. This is truly enough to make me want to become computericidal.

Well, using the new motherboard, everything is fine. I even got through 3dmark05 with a score of 11591 with everything totally stock. However, that x1950XT hit 86c, which is WAY too hot. Of course, now I have to take this motherboard out and put the old motherboard back in. :banghead: :banghead: :banghead: :banghead: :banghead: :banghead: :banghead:

The old motherboard is in and I'm typing this from the computer in question...now time make sure everything is stable at stock speeds. If it's not...time to self-destruct.

I have prime95 and superpi 16m running concurrently on the core 2 computer (I'm typing this now from my laptop). It is not going over 38c. Freakin sweet. After it's done with the 16m calculation I think I'm going to do some overclocking. Well, I can close this whole problems thread now and move on to the overclocking area. whoo-hoo!
