Weird processes...

So... I've just reformatted today and when I tried to install windoze (:P) media player, everything went well (except for the fact that my Windows is invalid because I reformatted too many times -.- ). When I took a look into my windows task manager, I found utorrent.exe running in the background (started by the system). Naturally, I found this a bit odd because I hadn't installed utorrent (I had installed Azureus though). When I tried to end the process, it would just pop right back. I had also tried to end the process tree, with the same results. A quick search of my hdd showed a utorrent.exe in my pagefile (which I also tried to delete with no effect).

My question is: does anyone know what's wrong or know how to fix it? I'd like to get all the memory free that I can and this is really annoying me. Any help will be appreciated.

edit: Also, my anti-virus software (McAffee enterprise ed.) and Spybot S&D and Ad-aware doesn't seem to classify it as a danger... which makes this even more perplexing :(

How do you know its a virus? If it was a virus, my antivirus software would have caught it. And it showed up AFTER I installed zonealarm.

?????????? And Zonealarm. Check windows components,IE add-ons. Also, if you have Zonealarm you can kill that torrent in Program Controll.

BTW. If you are running Macaffee and Zonealarm at the same time, neither are running properly if running at all. In MSCONFIG disable Windows security, Windows Firewall. and delete their respective files in windows components and Add-Ons in IE.

Zone Alarm is all I use and have never gotten a utorrent.

i love how people don't want to sound like fanboys so they feel the obligation to put "Microsucks" or "M$" or "Microshaft" or "Windoze" instead of the actual name. try convincing the 90% majority of PC users to switch from M$ to a better OS like...Mac? :banghead:

This is caused by Microsoft touting its userfreindlyness (whew!). But, when a user wants to optimize Windows for personal preferences its almost imposable. Microsoft is to busy controlling their customers and not smart enough to embrace them.

Not really, they just deal with it, because they don't have a choice. Keep in mind that the Apple Mackintosh OS was sold to them by "Mr. Billy" also, then he reverse engineered it to create Windows. Thats why he makes money no matter what system you buy!!

Personally, I'd use Linux but I'm afraid that none of the programs I use will work on it.

I've tried the Zonealarm thing, as well as disabling Windows firewall and all that other stuff, but it still shows up under processes. I guess the only way to get rid of it is to reformat :\

Try deleting it from within safe mode first.

well if ya dont like windows ya could always try lindows or red hat , or a unix ...or just about any thing else other than Windows and watch how fast your BACK on WINDOWS..lol:laugh: :laugh: :laugh:

Now you might end up liking a mac system but if your a gamer or overclocker who likes to compete , watch how fast ya come back to WINDOWS:toast: :toast: :toast:

It may not be perfect but if you do what we do then Windows is your choice:toast:
