What is the fastest 2gig of ddr-2 memory I can buy for $300? I'd like to find 800mhz@cl3 or 1000mhz cl4. 2x1gb or 4x512, doesn't matter. Which ever way is more stable. what do you guys think of this stuff. I know it's only 800 but it's 4-4-4-12 at least

You're not gonna find DDR2-800 CAS3 or DDR2-1000 CAS4 for that much money. You could try one of these kits, they're supposed to be monster overclockers.

What are the advantages/disadvantages to EPP ?

the motherboard will autodetect the best settings for the ram (timmings, voltage, speeds)
no need for a overclocker in my opinion

no need for a overclocker in my opinionEPP only works on nVidia chipsets I thought. And what did you mean by "no need for a overclocker"? Please explain, it could be taken many different ways.

forgot about it only work in nvidia
i mean since a overclocker likes to mess around with all settings manually ( i do) there's no need for ram with epp (in my opinion for overclock) it's just an extra

edit: can't find the review where they get 3-3-3-10@800mhzwith that ram
i will ask ketxxx

I agree completely. At first I thought you meant that you don't need to buy overclocker memory. I was completely confused. lol

at 4-4-4-12 tim's ? cuz ive try to make a cd copy of Memtest86 but i cant get it:o

but would Orthos on a custom test set the mem to use on full, would that also work ?

1000mhz at 2.1-2.15 isn't easy:(

wich latency do you have with your current ones?

I run 4-4-4-12 2t @ 800-860MHz and 5-5-5-15 2t @ 865-950Mhz

Absolute max is 960MHz, but they're not 100% stable at that speed at any latency.

i thought it only did that5 so it was stable? which means that your preformance would actually be bad at leats thats what i thought...

EDIT: Sorry didn't see your post above that. The 5-5-5-18 timings are fine, so is using Orthos. I really appreciate your help DOM. I've been trying to find a kit that will do 1000 or over at cas5 and 2.15v for some time now.

well i gotten them to 4-4-4-8 at 1195Mhz at 2.4v i had it at 2.45v but 2.4v was good to do SM2.0 thats how i got the score i got #7

well i'll see how high they go with 2.15 but the tims on auto the mobo sets them but at 4-4-4-8 i did that one ;)

Edit: Orthos so that would work cuz ive been trying to see which mem im going to send back to newegg got them mix up with the new ones that had came in right, now i got two sets of those rams:D

it didn't booted until i toke out one of the sticks:cry:

still testing

ps: fked up again, at this rate i will never play again on my pc
i have a phoenix bios and i heard a long beep, another long one, and another then restarts, then it do it all again \/

well i ran Orthos at full mem i dont think that a good idea cuz it frozze after 8mins only if i can get the damn memtest to work

but im useing mem at 5-5-5-18 1100Mhz with 2.15V, NB at 1.25V, SB at 1.5V, cpu at 1.5V didnt fell like changing it , 2640GHz

Something I did in my head and actually works in benchmarks is take the mhz/cl and you'll get a number to use for compairing. For example, 800 cl4 = 200 and 1000 cl5 = 200 If you had to choose between the two choose the 800 for the cost savings. The latency vs. speed has been argued before and my personal benchmarks between the two show little difference to justify the cost. If 800 cl3 did 7500mb/s in sandra the 1000 cl5 might pull off a 7600. There's little difference. The gains may be from the bus being 200mhz faster but the memory itself worked out to be the same. $.02 Now finding 1000 cl4 or even cl3 would be some screaming memory but I bet it's liquid cooled running 2.5v or more.
