View Full Version : G80 customers angry at lack of WHQL drivers threaten NVIDIA with class action lawsuit

Many people are very unhappy with the lack of good/WHQL certified drivers for their very expensive G80 video cards. A thread on NVIDIA forums (http://forums.nvidia.com/index.php?showtopic=24917) has been swarming with lots of flames and FUD toward the G80, and has been closed by one of their moderators. And so, instead of protesting the only (or so they are accusing) way NVIDIA really lets them, G80 users are trying to get enough research/evidence together to start a class action lawsuit against NVIDIA. Anyone who wants to help support this lawsuit, please visit NVidiaClassAction.org (http://www.nvidiaclassaction.org/). NVIDIA Class Action wants evidence such as screen shots and box covers claiming Vista compatibility in some way.

The site motto is rather catchy. The surprise we've all been waiting for - a $650 coaster.http://www.techpowerup.com/img/07-02-03/windowsvistacapabled.body-thumbnail_thm.png (http://www.techpowerup.com/img/07-02-03/windowsvistacapabled.body-thumbnail.png)

See, this is what happens when you think it's your duty in life to have the best hardware.

FUCKING WAIT a month you're not going to die :banghead:

Ha Ha. I love this, and the slogan is catchy. As most of us here stated, while Vista and DX10 (well, mainly DX10), are futures, nothing really supports DX10. We are told, this is the next big thing, this is what you need, etc. Well, we go out and buy it, and then the company who rushed it out to be "First" doesnt even have a working driver for it. Damn right Id be pissed over this.

This maybe a serious problem for Nvidia. Have you visited their forums lately? No wonder they have those rules setup before you can enter the forum. I had no idea it was that bad.

 I guess thats why ATI extended there release date there not as dumn as Nvidia. But well see when the R6xx's are out if its going to work im sure it most likely will if they extended for a reason.

What about those of us running XP with cards besides the 8800 series? We haven't seen a WHQL driver since novemeber and that one is extremely unstable.

I would be mad when i pay something around 500-1000 bucks on graphics and find out that i cant use it on vista. But i doubt nvidia is doing nothing about this...but they should inform the public on status.

I agree, I think if they just informed people about progress, even released beta drivers more often, even if they aren't stable, people probably wouldn't be as angry.

Your ramblings make absolutely no sense at all. You would be on my ignore list already but some how you are a mod. So I can't ignore you. How someone that does nothing but troll managed to become a mod is beyond me. I have lost all respect for all the mods on this site, and it is all because of you. Any site that you are a mod for obviously has no good mods at all. You make all the other mods on this site look bad.

If there are no WHQL drivers for the G80 cards, or the current drivers prevent the computer from operating when Windows Vista in installed:
Threatening a lawsuit is justifiable.

If there are WHQL drivers for these cards when Windows Vista is installed, but the only problem is that the "3D performance" is lacking/slow:
This like music fans suing the band Creed for "sucking" at a concert performance.
But here it's rich, spoiled nerds who have money to buy a $600 component and more money to carry on a lawsuit.

My judgment of this depends on that information, and I couldn't find it in the article or the nvidiaclassaction.org website (p.s: when you threaten to sue, always have a clear reason why you are suing on a public website that represents your potential lawsuit).

There are STILL no drivers for 7950 GX2 Quad-SLi. I wonder why no one has said anything about that. You pay 1200$ and the only game where it matters in is F.E.A.R. and it dosent matter enough because an 8800 GTX can beat Quad-SLi even in F.E.A.R. and all because of the drivers wich nVidia never even tried to make.

A lot of the first batch of 8800GTX said "Vista Ready" or something along those lines on the box.

False advertising= bad.

Yeah I don't know, I downloaded a driver from them earlier today and it was working fine, some one probably spilled beer on a router somewhere.

Most nvidia users say Nvidias drivers are flawless....I've never had success with Nvidias windows stuff, and I've never had success with ati's linux stuff. an ignore button isnt neccary, it is infact possible to skip over a post, should you not like it.

I'm not backing either company, but its not often everyone yells and screams at nvidia.

Normally it takes a profit effecting yelling to make their thick heads make a driver change.

I.E. FX bugs that ran ramped forever. The Ti4200 driver that nuked things, their 3d mark cheating. They were aqs quick as a flash to fix the 3d mark cheating, but the ti4200 problems *remain*.

I'l refrain from using any humor that has to do with past behavior of companys from now on because it apparently doesn't take well to people ^^
