View Full Version : Best Media Player? Curious...

I have used Windows media player, Real Audio Player, Winamp, and Itunes, Mediasource, Nero, and Ati's media player.
Personally for all around control and great output I have kept winamp for years. But honestly I'm starting to wonder if there is a better player out there. I have the one that came with my audigy, but honestly I'm not pleased with the output from mediasource.
Does anyone use anything else that has good output? I'm not concerned with easy to use or all sorts of goofy options, what I do want is massive control over my music with dsp effects, eq controls, and of course one that uses good decoders.
BSplayer Pro...its very flexable and runs fast. But WMP works great also.

I'll try that out, I'm really not pleased with windows media player... It just doesn't cut it, not enough control, and honestly it feels slow.

In my opinion, they all do the same thing. WMP11 just looks prettier, feels like it's meant to be there, and comes with my URGE subscription built in. That's why I use it at least, there are all sorts of different reasons to use different media players. I like Quicktime because it allows for audio streaming instead of download-then-play sometimes. Realplayer you just kinda feel forced into using though, since sometimes files are in real audio or real video...ugh that gets annoying.

Folks here "turned me onto" a decent free one called VLC...

(Works well, & does the job)
:)
* Nice part about it is, that it comes w/ it's OWN 'CODEC' base installed, so you don't have to add them via 3rd party distros of them later.

WMP10+This codec pack (http://www.illiminable.com/ogg/)
Plays every format and uses a tiny amount of memory, 10mb when maximized and about 6 mb when minimized to the task bar mini-player. Perfect for gaming.
Winamp is good too, plays every format and has a tiny memory footprint. I just dont like the way the windows break up into different parts.

What just set me off with winamp, is once I set my output to 24bit over 16bit all my dsp effect plugins stop working.... :(

VLC - it works with everything, including some anime i have with dual languages (audio) and dual subtitles. WMP and most other players have difficulty with subtitles unless they're on a DVD.

VLC is THE video player.
TCMP(the core media player) is great for audio files and uses winamp plugins as well as dshow codecs, i use it for playing most audio files because i like the blue dragon skin and the gui is good for audio playback :)
