well, for now, i've got a whopping fast 3 GB of mushkin ram in my system ...

and what i was wondering, and until i can sell my 2x512 1 gig kit ... what would happen if i configured windows xp to use absolutely no page file?

would this cause problems?

seems i recall winxp still needs *some* pagefile space for certain operations.

also, how else could i better utilize the 3 gig of ram? i certainly enjoy the spare RAM for dynamic RAM previews in video editing with vegas ... but what about for other 24/7 usage? maybe a 1 gig RAM drive for photoshop temp space? etc.?

(and BTW ... if you want a great deal on a 1 gig dual channel kit of smoke'n fast 800mhz mushkin ram, see the for sale forums here at techpowerup (http://forums.techpowerup.com/showthread.php?t=24714))

I had no problems, but there was no real performance difference either. Only thing different was one day Photoshop yelled at me about low memory, and then COD2 refused to run unless I had a page file. So just keep the page file :p.

Some application calls for a pagefile no matter what and will crash if it doesnt see one.

Keep it in the middle. I did, performance boost = minimal, but worth it.
