registry problem in xp.

Somewhere along the way an overclock much have currupted my registry. When I run any of my reg scanners, CRC, RegHealer, or Microsoft's Regclean, I recieve a BSOD and a "Page fault in non paged area" error. Any ideas on how to fix this? Another thing I can't help but notice is the boot screen's "blue bar" used to go across twice then I had my welcome screen 5 seconds later. Now it's up to 16 times across before I get to welcome screen and I haven't installed or uninstalled anything.

Sometimes I honestly think Microsoft has some sort of variable that lengthens Windows boot time slowly over time. I tried to verify this once about a year ago by putting the shutdown -r command in the startup menu and letting the PC reboot all night. By the next morning the boot time had increased 3 times!! @#*!$ Microsoft. :shadedshu I'm one for conspiracies and I'll be damned if that's not programed into Windows to make your PC slower over time to motivate you to upgrade.

Heh. Too late now I guess. Regedit wouldn't even run. Same thing. BSOD. I copied the backup from the repair folder only to be greated with this. (see pic) DAMN YOU WINDOWS!!!!!!! And this is the exact reason I won't pay for it!! I've spent too many hours after hours dealing with there crap. On the other hand a legit copy would give me bitching rights but that's no benifit really cause tech support is just Mr. Ublaboobla in India. :shadedshu

Thanks for the compliments man... that program was a REAL "labor of love" for me over the past 10 yrs. of its life now: Glad to hear others like it.

It's as safe as it gets, & very VERY thorough (by default, because you can make it only scan certain hives & such if you wish + other options like CPU priority used).

I also do NOT let it display OLEServer information, because pulling those via registry cleaners can be dangerous & wreck other system functionality...

In fact, in my program's OLDER versions? Well, I used to allow that (user access to OLEServer data), but no longer for typical "end-users", because of such mishaps. Other registry cleaners still do... & imo, it 'boggles the mind' they do, period!

Why? WELL, for a fact?? I know that many programmer's still don't FULLY understand how those work, so letting end-users purge their entries is dangerous imo.

Ok. I had to reinstall xp. (what else is new in an overclockers life?) Let me explain how.
-The original xp install is on a 500gb raid-0 and has a currupt registry.
-I clean installed xp to an old 20gb ide drive and booted from that.
-I then installed Acronis disk manager and copied the old xp raid partition to an extra 250gb drive.
-I then formated the raid and copied the new xp install off the 20gb to it.
-I removed the 20gb and booted from the raid with the new xp install.
-I then reinstalled all my programs and games, created the same user acounts, ect.

I thought I might try to copy the reg files from the new install (on the raid) to the old install (backed up on the 250gb) in hope it'll fix the old install. Windows gives me the error the files are in use and cannot copy them. I tried doing it from the recovery console and I recieved "access denied". Does anyone know how I can copy the files? They are located in c:\windows\system32\config I need the system and hardware files.

Should work on VISTA, "as-is"... from what I have been reading about it, the registry is the same format, so should NOT be a problem running on it (but, I have not tried it either on VISTA so I have NO idea).
