I've bought old server board with intel or840 chipset. ( 2 p3 933mhz & 4x128Mb rimm) and i cant get windows XP on it.

I run instalation without problem, and when it asks me about network setting typical or to manage myself, and then starts copiing files, it restarts.
I've put 2000 and works fine, but i want XP SP2

I had a system like that once, & the way I got around it was WAY odd... lol, diff. mobos & cpu's even.

I installed it on a disk in 1 system, then PULLED the disk, & put it into the 2nd machine (one 2000 would NOT install on)... & guess what?

"Plug-N-Play" picked up on ALL the newly found different equipment on that 2nd machine, & ran for years afterwards just fine...

:)

* Kind of 'hokey', but it worked in the case I am speaking of... perhaps it may for you as well, try it I suppose!

APK

P.S.=> I edited it, because I remember now, I used Windows 2000 to do that, not XP... but, they are SO close, it should work using XP too I would imagine... worth a shot anyhow to try I figure - good luck! apk

Perhaps you can try install it w/ out networking (not sure if this is an option or not, it has been a LONG while since I installed an OS here or elsewhere)... & then, add it yourself once you are inside a working Windows installation. That much I am certain, is doable (adding network services & clients later).
