- Fixed temp. monitoring on X850
- Fixed fan control noise on X850
- Added warning when not installing as Administrator
thanks erroneus for the reply (in beta 5) , my monitor tells me that 60 hz is the optimum and the cp tells me that 70 hz is the highest hz that this monitor will support, can i force refresh above 70 hz or will this potentially damage the monitor. thanks for the patience, i am just trying to learn.

Go to the manufacturer's site to make sure. Yes you can damage a monitor if you run it higher then the specs say. though 70hz seems REALLY low. 60hz is the default level for TV's and it is what windows sets the refresh rate default.
Do you have a TV hooked up to either the hi-def/svideo?

nope, no t.v. , i have a dell 17" fp digital, not sure who really makes it though, i will look at the dell website to see if i can see some info on refresh rates

Getting fan noise on X850XT after reboot when 'Overide fan speeds' is selected.

nullman: you checked "do not change pwm frequency" in fan control settings?
Nullman
03-25-2005, 05:20 PM
Yes, 'Do not change PWM base frequency' IS checked. It only does it after I reboot, then I can't get rid of it unless I deselect 'Overide fan speeds', reboot. Then I have to select Overide again. It's fine until next time I reboot. If I forget to deselect 'Overide fan speeds' before rebooting, when windows loads, the fan revs for a short time, at which point the high pitched noise starts.
Thing is, with beta5, selecting 'Fixed percentage' instead of 'Dynamic' worked ok, but in beta6, no matter what you select, if 'Overide fan speeds' is on, it makes the noise after I reboot.

Flatpanels have much slower refresh then CRT, and normally when you set the refresh too high they tend to just go black. 70-75hz is common with LCD but 60 is way below normal.

Sorted :D
Tested each setting individualy by rebooting using 'Fixed Percentage' then 'Keep GPU temp at' then finally 'Dynamic based on GPU temp', and it worked a charm each time, no noise :)
Good work sir ;)

Actually 60hz is pretty normal on LCD monitors, and it's a dell, which means it's not a top of the class monitor.
Anyway the difference between 60 and 70hz on a LCD is not much, but from a CRT 60 Hz to a LCD 60 hz is HUGE, so actually i wouldn't worry about it twak :)

ok, here is the deal, I have an x850 xt and when I use ATI tool it throws off my fan settings for the 850 xt even when I close it. NOW, the scary part is when I restart it at some point, i.e. to play a game i will look at the temp and it will be around 80 or something. Damn that is running to hot when idle. Moreover, when I try to place the fan settings per the different temperatures and different fan speed options pertaining to a perticular temperature the settings get reset every single time to something rediculous. ie. won't turn on till it is at 93 celcius.
So, will the beta help with this and should I download it now and if so where?
thanks I am new here

thanks for the new beta, but still my asus eax800xt pe pci-e is unsupported, hope it'll be fixe later.
I'm having exactly Nullman's problem with fan noise with the beta 6 but that problem wasn't there in Beta 5 for me. I have made sure that the "Do not change PWM frequency" box was checked in both cases. I'm using a Sapphire X850 XT PE card and my MB is an Asus P5AD2 Deluxe (if this helps). As far as using the fan control I must keep it locked on 40% (39%) to keep the core at 82C under full load. Using the Dynamic or "Try to keep" mode always creates noise in both Beta 5 and 6. On boot up (Fixed %) of Beta 6 with Fan Control on I get noise but not so in Beta 5.
Anyone know the max operating temp of these chips? Even ATI's on Control Center has thse cards in the mis 80's at 70% of these temp guage, thats seems awfully high to me.

W1zzard: when I click mem is says This cars is not supported. + I can seem to find fan control anywhere.
Edit: And for some reason my card never goes under 51 degrees anymore, once untill reboot it was 38, and i have a hell of airflow.

i keep my fan at 70% fixed and it keeps my x800 (sapphire) pro at about 55 under extreme load (artic-silencer 4). i love the fan control option. at idle it runs at around 34-36.

Tested with the new beta, it works brilliantly. At fixed and dynamic no more sound (with the PWN checked). Thanks, I’m ecstatic that I no longer have to keep the fan locked at 40% anymore
BTW: Is there any tests you'd like me to peform that would help you out? Just let me know.

it's strange, today i have placed the new ati silencer 5 rev2 on my ati bba x850xt.
It seems that atitool cannot control the fan speed.....whatever speed i choose i do not hear different noise from the fan so i guess it is not changing % rpm.
Anyone with silencer5 rev2?
thanks

ATITool 0.24b6 gives major problems with my Radeon 9800SE, unlocked to 9800 with the latest softmod driver (Cat 5.3) from this site. I was using the Omega drivers beforehand and their softmod option, and the card ran great; no artifacts in any games or benchmarks. ATITool 0.23 worked fine with it; I was able to get the default core/mem from 378/300 to 450/350. Although, I've decided to run at the defaults for now (getting a watercooling system soon... then we'll see... :D).
But with v0.24b6, as soon as I run the "Find max core" or "Find max mem" tests, the rotating cube immediately starts off with many artifacts, and ATITool starts lowering the clocks! I let it downclock my GPU to 350MHz, and the cube STILL showed artifacts! At that stage I cancelled the test and quit ATITool.
I'm going to reinstall 0.023 tonight and see if there's any difference. Logfiles from both versions ASAP, Monday at the latest.

This is an AWESOME beta - no more asprin for ME! The whine has gone away on my 850xt. Just one thing though - are you sure you have not done something to the fan speeds?
I used to have to have to have my fan at 30% to keep the temp at 55c while idling. Now I have it at 5% and the temp is idling at 50c! Also - the fan seems louder at 5% rpm now then it did at 30%rpm before. I can not slow it down any more as it jumps to 0% from 5% regardless of what value i put in.
The reason I am suspicious about fan speeds is because the fan seems suspiciously loud at 5% and that there does not seem to be much of a noise difference between 80% and 100% (liek you get going from 60% to 80% for example) so im wandering if somethign dodgy happened to the fan speeds.
