could you list a full sys specs?

a few things to try:
The obvious: Is it muted? Are your speakers on? And plugged in? (sorry, i had to ask)

The less obvious:
Go to start-> control panel -> Sound -> audio tab, and make sure your sound device is listed as the default playback device.

Soundman also comes with sound cards using Realtek audio.

go into device manager and see if theres any driver issues w/ the sound card. you also might want to try reinstalling the audio drivers as well.

is it integrated sound or is it a pci soundcard?

9 out of 10 built in cards are made by REALTEK..
In a few words Download these 2 drivers

The Plain Driver if the PC is Over a year old ( Choose your Operating System )
http://www.realtek.com.tw/downloads/downloadsView.aspx?Langid=1&PNid=23&PFid=23&Level=4&Conn=3&DownTypeID=3&GetDown=false#AC

Or the HD Driver if its a new one ( Choose your Operating System )
http://www.realtek.com.tw/downloads/downloadsView.aspx?Langid=1&PNid=24&PFid=24&Level=4&Conn=3&DownTypeID=3&GetDown=false#High%20Definition%20Audio%20Codecs

If its a PCI Card then you must find out which one.
