Yeah, the real story behind it is crazy. They still see effects from it today, much the same as the Japanese do from the WWII bombings. Anyway, I can't wait to try out that game.

be aware guys,it is NOT that easy to run.on mine at 1280x1024 not even all maxxed it was about 17-25fps avg.

one of the reactors overheated from a valve or pump failure if i remember correctly
when they tried to flush out the reactor core to prevent the core from going critical (as in undergo a cataclysmic nuclear chain reaction) the core superheated the cooling fluid and blew up, caving in the roof of the reactor and firing tonnes of irradiated graphite (used for cooling) blocks that scattered hundreds of metres around the reactors radius. At the same time it spewed out a heapppp of radioactive ions in gaseous form, which pretty much made alot of the area downwind unusable for farming (as people began getting cancer from irradiated vegetables). They ended up having to build a concrete sarcophagus, or a thick shell over it.
Its still radioactive today, and the radiation constantly damages the enclosure, which needs to be replaced periodically, at the risk of laborourers and structural engineers i can imagine.

The town is uninhabitable...makes for a great game environment :)

i got it just a few hours ago, i can just about run it on low settings but i aint got the 2gb of ram this game NEEDS to run smoothly.

took some screenies for you to look at, some are at 1280x1024 (pics 1-11) and some at 1600x1200 (12-22 which have everything maxed out completely just for quality purposes)

holy balls this game is boring. i just walk around doing shit for people. sure i kill some people and animals sometime but its very bland and repetitive. graphics arent very good. i have it at 1024x768 everything maxed out. get about 40 FPS. not impressed at all. do not buy this game!

I wouldnt call it a waste of money......Maybe he will just have a high framerate all the time with minimal slowdown? ;) Also is even more positive to have that card for future games. So I wouldnt say its a waste. :toast:

You have a good point.....but I must have great eyes because I can see 60 fps. I was simply trying to be positive, not trying to tell someone they wasted money. Besides, in another year or so newer games will bring that card to its knees. and it will only maybe top out at 60+ fps. ;) So that resolution wont be so bad with that card afterall. :toast:

I havent noticed a difference in countless games when i play above 60fps, 30 ok perhaps sometimes but above 60 no.
In a few words all of the reviewer sites ive seen recommend the 8800GTX for resolutions above 1680x1050 :)

Chimei make the LCD panels themselves - LG and dell buy them and add teh case, recently they started adding a case themselves under the CMV brand.

The human eye can easily see 72FPS - thats why the whole 75Hz thing for CRTs is all about, anything below 72 is visible to the eye, and can cause eye strain.

above 24 FPS it stops looking like a slideshow, thats why television/movies are at that framerate, and may be where you got your 30 FPS from.

And honestly guys.... try gaming at 30 FPS and then go to 100... its a night and day difference in FPS games.


Edit: oh yeah, and 16x AA makes modern games run at a nice slow framerate anyway ;)

i think they all buy eachothers parts. i know that both LG and Samsung basically manufactured all our major electronics the past 20 years but were sold buy sony and other top asian companies. then both LG and Samsung realized they could make money in the consumer market too.

Samsung and Sharp are the bigest LCD panel manufacturers...

i'm playing it now, however on a GTX its going to look better than anything else - widescreen at 1680x1050 w/ 4x AA looks on par with say, HL2. it does look very bland if the shaders/shadows are turned down/off however.

Yes however - now that i've played it, the story is really mish-mash. weapons are fun, multi is crap, story is crap. My main gripe is that the map is useless - the damn thing keeps pointing me off onto the wrong quests.

Heh man... you play with the same settings as me, same res as well. The graphics arent all that hot, however some things are really cool in game - when you find the telekinetic/telepathic monsters, the effects are really cool for their attack.

Oh and shadows off - the game does look a lot nicer with them on, the focus seems to be on shadows and shaders. Try turning AA off and shadows on, see if it looks better.

i love this game awesome graphics for a older game and game play is sweet and there are things to unlock the AI so its all random cause i guess the locked it up cause they where having lots of problems and thats why it took so long. if you unlock the AI the game gets ALOT better and just turns into a different game its insame

its not really an older game, it might have been under development for close to 5 years but that doesnt make it old, as for the game itself tbh i havent played it enough to give an indepth review but from the get go i wasnt that impressed with the graphics and the resulting fps for a lot of high-end systems or the gameplay, it just didnt make me want to play it tbh. :rolleyes:

ok my system isnt "top-end" but imo its high end and i didnt spend close to £700 on it to play a sub-standard game imo at high(ish) settings with such slowdown, the graphics dont justify the kind of system needed to play at higfh settings with a decent fps aswell. :nutkick:
