I have actually had this one for a while, but now that it is summer I get to play with it! Pics:

I took it out to the drag stip last weekend(quality kind of bad because it is a camera phone, forgot my real camera :)
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v296/newtekie1/car/gofast.jpg

Planned upgrades:
Tinted Windows
New Plugs and Wires
Wet NOS system w/ Thrasher spacer for the supercharger
3.4" Supercharger pulley
New PCM(remove speed limiter, new shift points, knock retard, 40MPH WOT lag removed, etc)
Dynomax Cat-Back system
SLP Headers

Though all those upgrades might go out the window if the current deal for an '06 GTO goes though.

75 or 80MPH in some western states, 65 in Indiana.

Yeah, adjustable shocks and springs should be on my list of upgrades, which will allow me to control the hieght. Though it is actually at a perfect hieght right now, any lower and I will be hitting curbs and crap all the time.:o

Well, watch you dont get caught doing those speeds, if you were in the u.k you would lose your licence straight away! See what you mean though about curbs ;)

Right now it is speed limitted at 125MPH which means I run out of speed before the end of the stip. Which is why I want to get a new PCM, which will remove the limitter. Right now it just drops into the 4th gear at 125 and imediately stops accelerating, the power is there to keep going, but the PCM won't allow it.

Actually, just under a mile and a half. It is an old runway converted to public dragstrip to promote keeping street racing off the streets(ironic I know).

That is such a pretty racecar :).

The speed limit on most US highways is 65, but most people ignore it and to 70-85 miles an hour :p. And in the USA, the cops don't arrest you if you're keeping up with traffic. If you're passing everyone grand-prix style, you're going to get a pretty big speeding ticket :ohwell:. And if you do that with your Junior Operator License (aka all the drivers under 21 with disgusting insurance bills), you've lost your license. The UK roads are sounding more fun all the time...but your petrol/gas is like 4x more expensive than ours (and our cars are a fourth as efficient, so it balances ).

Ah, I love driving....
In my opinion a race-car like that should be a stick-shift :). There's nothing quite the VRRRRRM :chk: VRRRRRRRM :chk: VRRRRRRRRRRRRRM :chk: VRRRRRRRRRRM: of a manual when you're accelerating :rockout:.

Probably the lamest thing that I know of. My insurance alone costs as much as my dad, my mom, my sister, and my grandfather all combined

edit: That's a nice car though... so shiny! :D

As for me... that's not the type of car I'd drive. As of now I want a Mitsubishi Evo or a Subaru WRX but with the insurance rates... I doubt I'll get that any time soon :|

Insurance isn't too bad, I only pay $900 a year for this.

I wouldn't mind a Mitsubishi Evo, but I prefer American muscle(even though my car is technically made in Canada:laugh: and the GTO I want is made in Austrailia:roll:).

Well I almost sold this Monday and bought a blue '06 GTO. The GTO is just such a sweet car, but smaller than I would like, and missing some of the features I would expect to see in a $30,000 car. Plus, I just couldn't bring myself to get rid of my Monte Carlo, it is just such a rare car(not that the GTO wouldn't have been, but the Supercharged Monte Carlo is rarer). I don't know, there is just something about getting rid of my first "fun" car, I can't bring myself to do it.

What features are you missing in the GTO, power steering? :p.

newtekie1
03-29-2007, 02:53 AM
Sunroof
Information center(pretty standard on new GM cars, gives gas milage, direction, outside temp, etc)
Folding back seats
Auxilary Input(standard on most 2006 GM cars now)
Home Center(allows for programming of up to 3 garage doors into the car so I don't need a seperate garage door opener in the car)
Heated Seats(a must when you have leather seats)

Those are just the ones I noticed right away in the 5 minutes I was in the car at the dealer.

Of course those features are kind of offset by the little feature of a 400HP LS2 Corvette engine...:banghead:

zekrahminator

Sunroof: Dremel's are FUN :) (just kidding)

Information Center: Gimmicky, in my opinion. Gas mileage can be found by watching how fast the gas needle goes down :p. You can get a compass and thermometer for less than $20 USD, and that's MUCH cheaper.

Folding back seats: <3 dremel .

Auxiliary input: Can you please tell me what this is? Sounds interesting .

Home Center: I don't need one, my garage doesn't have an opener :p.

Heated seats: Can't argue with that.

Let me just explain the kind of features I wish my dad's car had, and then be glad you have enough money to buy a race car :).
A sixth gear, so that the car actually bothered to respond at 70+ miles an hour A rear windshield wiper Power steering! Air conditioning

Wanna share the wealth? My dream car only costs $20,000 .

An Aux input just lets you plug pretty much any audio device that has a headphone port you want into the stereo. So you can easily connect an MP3 player to the stereo without the need to rip apart the dashboard and replacing the original radio, or modifying the original radio.

Well the car I had to drive around for a large part of my life was complete trash. It was a '91 Mercury Tracer Stationwagon. I was lucky to even get it up to 70, let alone expect it to go higher. I only had one speaker that worked, and it was blown. It has a rear windshield wiper, but it didn't work. It didn't have air conditioning originally, I had to pretty much replace every part of the air conditioner to get it to work. It also had no functioning power steering:rockout:. I drove that car into the ground saving up for this one(and my '02 Impala I drive everyday), it took a lot of hard work to save enough money.

$20,000 doesn't sound like a lot for a dream car, what is it? My dream car is a little bit more than that, more in the $80,000 range(Dodge Viper, if you can't tell I kind of like American muscle).

You're right, it isn't that much, but then again it isn't exactly an extreme muscle car. I'm only 16ish, so chances are when I turn 18 and can actually afford to insure a car, this'll change. But I do know that I LOVE this car now, and that's what matters....

3800 s/c FTW :rockout:

i got a 97 grand prix gtp in early january, it has the same engine exact engine and i love it. i already got a zzp pcm 1.0v, cold air intake, 180tstat, and autolight 104 spark plugs. the next step im taking is headers (pacesetters) and a 3.4"pulley. idk if you have ever been to zzperformance.com, but that place is like newegg for our 3800s. wtf8269 also has a 3800 s/c in his 97 buick regal gs. people dont expect our cars to be fast, but will around a grand in mods we can easily hit mid to upper 13s. Its so fun when someone asks how much did it cost to supercharge your car (when its stock). No one is expecting out of a 4 door sedan (mine is 4 door).

ps. why did you put a 4" pulley on? stock pulleys are 3.8" with headers, you should be able to run a smaller pulley than stock year round

ps. those look like stock manifolds, you havent put the slp's on yet?

newtekie1
03-29-2007, 03:31 PM
I'll have to check that site out, thanks.

I haven't done any of those upgrades yet, those are just the "planned" upgrages, that I was putting on old due to the pending '06 GTO deal, which I ended up not taking. Everything is still stock on the car right now, except the windows which are now tinted. I will probably keep everything stock until the warranty is over at the middle of this year.

I meant a 3.4" pulley, don't know why I put 4" instead, probably just me typing faster than my brain can keep up with.

The cars are fast, the only problem is they are very heavy compared to some of the ricers and stuff out there so they take some time to get going, and a little bit more finese to not just smoke the tires at take-off.

Tomcat81970
03-29-2007, 08:27 PM
yeah those cars were heavier, but you do know about supporting mods? headers is a very good supporting mod, the pacesetters are the cheapest you can get (350$ w/o coat and cat) id get the coat, or you need to wrap them because of extreme heat (will melt wires), but the cat is up to you. also a pcm (reprogramed cars computer) is another very good supporting mod. they are automatically programed to a 3.4 pully, move your shifting points up, enable a 3 to 1 shift and a 4 to 2 shift and gets rid of the governer. spark plugs, like the 104's are also a good cheap supporting mod. supporting mods are needed to reduce knock retard, which is the responce the computer takes to correct engine knock. it delays the timing of the spark plugs so that the engine doesnt continue to run. knock retard can extremely damage your engine, so inorder to give your car more boost you need supporting mods. a safe setup for atleast a 3.4 is spark plugs/wires, downpipe (headers come with) pcm, intake (cold air), and a 180tstat. go to gtpworld.com and join up, they will be a huge help there.

Changed my mind about wanting an 07 Kia Sportage. The engine on the stick-shift version is seriously underpowered (similar engine and gear ratios as you'd find in the small sedan sitting in my (parents) driveway), and the V6 engine only comes with an automatic transmission, which can only be described as "bumpy". Add that to seats that become remarkably uncomfortable after two hours of driving, and I have to say that while I like it, it sure isn't a dream car :p.

newtekie1
03-29-2007, 11:09 PM
@Tomcat: Oh yeah, I know all about support mods. I don't really consider myself an expert in the subject, but I'm not a novice either. All the support mods are planned before anything else, Headers, intake(currently on order actually), PCM, plugs, 180tstat(should I drill it?) are all planned. Luckily one of my friends is a very good mechanic, so we trade my computer work/knowledge for his car work/knowledge.

@zek: Don't you hate it when you like a car then find out it isn't as good as you thought, that is how I was with the GTO. I'm sure you'll find your dream car.

Nice ride, Even the old monte carlo's look nice. I remember seeing one in "Training Day", Denzel Washnington had one  badass :)

I say, pimp the interior :)
Huge subs in the boot, amps under the back seat, and a whole lotta speakers.
Maybe some LCD screens/beer chillers ;)

200 aint bad for a heavy car like that (im assuming its heavy because its muscle, correct me if im wrong. My dad only ever got the bmw up to about 250-260km/h (about 160mph) on the open road. I think its speed limited after that, but it was fun while it lasted. The bends were REALLY scary

newtekie1

It has 2 decent subs in it right now, but I will probably replace them, and a small amp mounted in the trunk, which I will probably also replace. But I am not big on playing the stereo so loud it rattles the doors off the car.

The engine is heavy since it is big(3.8L), but the car itself is also very large compared to most "ricers".

Have you ever seen people "filling their doors"???
Theres a guide out there on the net for filling the hollow frame of your door with some patching material or something (the weight added to the car is negligible) but it makes your doors solid so that when you close them you get that nice expensive car "thump" noise like you hear in the movies

It also helps your speaker system, better accoustics probably.
And its a cheap hack too

i would recommend getting the 180 tstat drilled, thats what i did. Remember heat is the enemy!!!

"Drilled thermostats- The car will still get up to the temp that the thermostat is but it will take longer. The gain in it taking longer is when your car is sitting(not running) it is cooling down. When you restart the car to race it"

"A non-drilled 180 stat is recommended for the 2004+ GPs, 2000+ Bonnevilles and Regals or an engine code can be set."

https://www.zzperformance.com/grand_prix/products1.php?id=231&catid=109

since we have the same engine and tranny, 99% of the parts on that site should be compatibly (i know engine s/c parts and tranny parts will be 100%, but as far as exhaust goes im not sure)

ps. those headers are going to be a pain in the a$s. it takes on average 7-9 hours (i had started a thread at gtpworld some time ago) to get those things in there (front not too bad, but rear.... o man, as you can see its not easily accessible.)

i also forgot this,
http://www.wbodystore.com/grandprix/animul-performance-whipple-kits-new-p-25.html

"* Old style Whipple made 568hp and 488lbs of torque
* New style Whipple made 581HP and 531lbs of torque"
