Leopard Delayed for Vista Support

Although Apple’s new Leopard operating system was expected to be released in April, industry sources are indicating that the new OS could be pushed back to October to allow Apple time to improve support for Windows Vista. As strange as it may sound that Apple is building its OS to work with Vista, it needs to be remembered that Apple isn’t only interested in selling the OS, it wants to sell Macs as well, which it can do by allowing Windows users to move over to Mac hardware. Because Boot Camp is to be integrated into Leopard, this should allow Windows users to easily install XP, but there are some issues with it that will create problems when installing Vista - if Leopard supports only Windows XP, then the chance of the new OS attracting Windows users to buy an Apple computer will decrease, meaning Apple misses out on sales. So Mac fans will have to wait a little longer for the next OSX.

If Apple wanted more people, why don't they just improve hardware support and start selling OSX in stores?

Well, they will be lose my future business. I am looking to buy a notebook. But if Apple cannot crank out a good new (possible DX 10) based MacBook Pro by the end of April, I will go for Asus or other high end notebook.

IMO Apple is going about this all wrong. I say release the software in April. I was considering a new Mac purchase but now I'll delay that until October.

The amount of Windows switchers will be small too and Apple can work on Vista support for v10.6 in 2008.

What a complete bogus reason.

Steve jobs very proudly presented the "number" of OS releases they made in the last 6 years... and in his philosphy, the more the better. So if the OS was REALLY working they would release it and add a point release for Vista compatibility later.

I don't know what boot camp is, but if I can only load windows while Mac OS is running, instead of loading Windows by itself, I'd never buy a mac - then again, I have absolutely no reason to buy a Mac since every task I need done with a computer can be done well with a PC.

BootCamp allows you to dual-boot into Windows. OS X is not running.

Why don't they do as Micro$oft does, and release the software regardless, then a while later, release a patch or service pack to fix the problem(s). Everyone should be as sloppy as Micro$oft IMO.

Apple already does that. It's called a yearly OS release. ;) Except 10.5 is later than usual.
