Intel to build a factory in China

Intel confirmed the plans to construct a factory in Dalian, northern China. It will use 300mm wafers and cost $2.5 billion. When the factory is done in 2010 it will be designated Fab 68.

For the past 15 years Intel hasn't constructed any new facilities at a new location, added to that it will also be the first fab located in Asia. China is a rapidly growing market, Intel hopes an investment in this market will better their service Asia.

Not old news. Last time I reported about the new fab it was unofficial. Intel did not comment the story. Now DanTheBanjoman informs us and confirms it was not a lie and that the new fab is officialy announced.

No Ive read the article before this thread was posted...and I didnt read it today.
Which is weird because the date that intel posted it was today and it looked the same as something ive read before. Maybe it was in Time magazine...

THanks for the confirmation Dan. YEah, I remember when Malware posted on speculation (perhaps is the better term). This should mean more chips and even lower prices. And can I Say, me being an AMD Fanboy, Im extremely happy with Intel on its new C2D chips and prices. For once, they come in affordable.
