did you install your motherboard drivers?

no?

Sweet......

@ Animal: It should always be a standard procedure to install the latest motherboard and chipset drivers prior to installing even the video card drivers. Give it a shot, then report back.

you should list what settings you have the games at, because otherwise we know nothing.

the rest of you should know better.
what settings (resolution, AA, af, texture quality, etc were all the tests at?) the only test we know anything about is 3dmark because we all assume that it's at default (which it most likely is with that score)

do that first

cpu-z will tell you usually what mobo you have

here is the link for your motherboard chipset INF files:
http://downloadcenter.intel.com/scripts-df-external/Detail_Desc.aspx?agr=N&DwnldId=12150&lang=eng

You have an intel 915 chip set.

you should of went to product information and then motherboard specs here:
http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=c00297771&lc=en&cc=us&dlc=en&product=448689&lang=en
Tells you what chipset you have.

Once you know what chip set you have, all you have to do is go to the chip set maker's site and download the updated chip set files.:D

Actually anything over 6000 on 3dmark 05 with a P4 and x850xt or xt Platinum Edition is pretty good.
I got a score of 5925 with mine and I have an AGP card that does not have the bus speed of PCI Express. Not only that I also use a socket 478 Prescott that runs at 3.0 and I only have 1 gig of ddr400.

The only differience between the x850xt and the x850xt Platinum Edition is the set speed in the video card bios.:D

In the process of installing Windows, the first drivers you should install are the chip set files.
This gives Windows knowledge of how your chip set works. Your chip set is the foundation of your motherboard, and the motherboard is the main part of the computer system, the North Bridge aka Front Side Bus is the memory controller and graphics controller. The South Bridge controls all the other parts of your computer, IDE SATA USB2.0 and so on and so on. (on AMD Motherboards socket 939 and over, the North Bridge is built into the processor, and you only have the PCI Express controller.)

You only want to update your motherboard's bios if your are having system problems like freezing, or hardware compatibility issues.
You need to tell me what your screen resolution for your computer is in both the Desktop and in your Games. This plays an important part of your Benchmark scores.

You also need to tell me the level of detail in your games, because the higher the detail, the slower the video card runs. (the x850xt I have can play all my games maxed out and get good frame rates of around 35-45 in Need 4 Speed Most Wanted, although I never have played Battlefield 2)

Cheers

once again thanks for reply paul, yeah my score on 3dmark 05 was the 12th highest for ppl with my spec pc on the 3d mark web site so i know that pretty good, issue seems to be with ounter strike source video stress test where i get about 30 fps, and in bf2 where i get 30 to 70 fps, maybe its just me expecting too much?

all the games seem to run smooth that just seems like low fps for such a high spec? anyways thanks for help.

was wondering could the hard drive have anything to do with it?

Nope, the hard drive shouldn't have any effect on 3d rendering performance.

Have you checked that your memory is running in 'dual channel'? Download CPUZ and take a look under the memory tab. This might be the cause of your problems :)

They have added alot more to the game, detail to the models, lighting enhancements, and it seems like I was reading a thread yesterday and someone mentioned that there was an update somewhere around November of last year, and that there was a performance decrease along with it.

Edit: Heres the post I was referring to located in the Stalker thread. CSS did indeed run on an MX440 at launch - severeal updates since then have killed performance big time, so those old owners are pretty screwed (thats why the 7800GS you mentioned has issues - the stupid performance killing updates)

The source engine was coded well... and totally F*cked in updates.

P.S- you guys got confused as to what games each other meant, but i do knwo people with steam games (CSS/DoD: S) with good rigs who get worse performance than slower rigs, its a problem with a november update to steam.
