Really nasty crackly sound. I havent patched STALKER yet though, maybe that will fix it. Everything is updated and this is the only game I get nasty crackly sound in. Doom3, Quake4, FEAR, all no problems at all.

Games uses Software Mixing for the sound, which on some sound cards causes that crackly noise. Not saying this is the problem, but I had it once in GRAW and using Hardware Mixing fixed it. My friend had the issue in some games too, so he used Hardware and it fixed it, but he gets the crackly noise in Stalker.

Yeah, well it's annoying, it distorts the sounds. It's not going to be the same for every sound card, but what I've heard with mine, and other's, it's a consistent clicking or putting sound if that describes it lol.

Which sound driver package are you using? I had the same problem in games with a lot of the
driver releases from ASUS. I have the best results with this driver version: AD1988B_2KXP_510014580_DTS.

I use the very newest, the 6110 DTS drivers. Cleans all the nasty snapping and popping right up for me, it doesnt even do it in stalker until I played for a few mins then it comes right back. While the driver is partly to blame still, the stalker sound engine isnt exactly good, so guestimation is the swing is 30% - 70%, with the 70% being the stalker sound engine being the problem.

I'll be buying sheilded sound cable as I hate it when my nextel crosstalks over onto my speakers! Grrrr!!!!!!That probably won't stop it. The speakers themselves are sensitive to it. My cell will cross-talk into my Infinity towers, when absolutely no wires are running to them.

it most likely is the sound card. most of my game cartridges for the nintendo ds is getting dusty, so they lag alot. its probably another problem with DUST.
