I've been running an ATI Radeon 9800 pro at stock speeds and I decided to try to overclock but when I
checked my current bios the site(?) I went to appears to say that it's for an R360 core but ATItool says
I'm running an R350. Can that be right? Does it make any difference as far as overclocking? My RAM is hynix HY5DU283222A F28 417A.
oh, I forgot, what is the likely cause(s) of ati tool finding artifacts at default speed?

Try to eliminate the posibility of heat being the cause of your artifacts. Take the side off of your case and put a room fan blowing in it then run ati tool artifact scan. If no artifacts are detedted and your case is well ventilated and not hot, try a cooling upgrade. A few months ago I ended up rma-ing a 9800pro that artifacted at default, it did it right out of the box.
ATI tool recognizes nearly all if not all 9800 128mb pros as r350s even though most have the r360. The only way to no for sure if its an r360 is by removing the heat sink and looking. If you are going to remove your heatsink be sure to have some as5 for the reinstall.

I would get rid of the artifacts at default first if you cant the core and oc wont matter much anyway.
