i had a problem when i booted up today. i had to pick if i wanted to go into safe mode or normal, etc. i picked normal. booted up fine, then the vista diagnostics told me i had a hardware problem, i didn't think and closed that and thought that since vista was new it could just be a bug. but i did start running to instances of prime 95 in the small fft's and 20 mintues later the screen goes black and it reboots. i run dell's diagnostics and it tells me nothing. i thought it may be intel's TAT that i just installed yesterday. i ran system restore, and now it's like this. do you guys really think it's a hardware problem? or just a buggy os? and prime didn't give me anything saying that it failed, so i don't think it's the cpu. thanks for your input.

is there any o/c's or anything running on your system atm? anything tweaked out of normal?
What about heat? did this ever happen in prime before?

I had an issue so I switched back to XP Pro last night...I found when I downloaded a certain update my PC would start restarting by itself, and get an occasional blue screen. This update did something with my core video drivers and sent everything haywire, and of course in Vista you can't uninstal/install CCC drivers unless you're in normal mode! I got sick of it, and I almost had it narrowed down to what update did this, and I said screw it for now. I got XP Pro loaded back up and screaming and stable. I let my friend borrow Vista for now and warned him of the issue I had.
Another note, it didn't matter if I was OC'd or not, this issue persisted as soon as I did this specific update. If I didn't catch it and my PC kept restarting overnight I'd have to reinstall vista (the repair feature would never detect anything), and when I ran the recent problems program, it said I needed to install new video drivers. What a waste in my opinion. It is a recent update as I was fine for 2 months, until about a week ago.

undervolting the cpu, that's it. prime would only tell me there have been errors. heat, my cpu never gets above 60 and rarely gets above 55 (both in C)
@kursah, i reverted to the restore point that was the last update, so that's not installed yet, do you know what the update's called?
