Look at the difference one silly letter can make in a thread title  (I'll change it back soon, don't worry).

you can run whatever you want. if you turn up the settings and res, your gfx card will not be bottlenecked anymore. So, you can still get a pretty picture and good framerates, just don't expect it to perform really well in a benchmark (3dmark) haha nice zek, just saw that too

perhaps a x1950xt/pro or a 7900gs/gt or higher.

if you had that kind of money i would say don't get the p D 945 but get a e4400 or something like that for your p5b you're getting. and if you can turn up the settings like i said before, yeah a 8800 gtx would look nice...really nice.

well my plan is to get memory, and hopefully get a e6550 at the end of the summer and a fairly high end card, thats why i asked if i could run a 8800gtx off a d 945

don't get the 945 upgrade. you should just get the 8800 gtx and upgrade the monitor (high res, so you can really enjoy that 8800). is the e6550 going to be a 333 mhz fsb chip? i know the p5b can really overclock, but i still don't know how much headroom for overclocking your going to get if it is a 333 mhz chip.

You can run any GPU, however, the 8800GTX will def. get bottlenecked (heck it gets bottlenecked by any CPU).
However, you will def. be able to run any game without a problem.
So go for the best you can afford, but if you really dont need it I would wait since prices will prob. come down :)

why not go this way,

get a 8600gt a lot cheaper then a 8800( because its not as good but you can still play the new dx10 games when they come)

and get a asrock motherboard and cheap core2duo and then you can use your old ram for now!!

i bet the total cost would be about the same as a 8800gtx and your system would run better still!!

if i was going to upgrade thats what i would do with limited money

Yeah, I don't know what DaMulta was talking about. A Pentium D 975 would definately bottleneck an HD 2900xt. And if that bottlenecking would be bad I would like to see you run an 8800gtx. I suggest an upgrade your CPU.

Who cares if it's bottle necked a little? As long as it runs his games at the settings he wants, it doesn't matter. The bottleneck will likely only effect his benchmark scores, which has no bearing on whether the games are perfectly playable or not. If it's in his budget, the pD and 8800GTX combo will game better than a Core2 with a lower video card.

the whole reason i asked this, was because my budget consist of money for ram right now, that is all i have money for right now......later in the summer i want to get a nice graphics card and i was hoping for something along the lines of a a 8600gts or the hd 2600 xt or maybe even the 640mb version of the 8800, i just wanted to know if it would be a bottleneck or not and that way i would know not to even bother getting a 8800 or something as high end as that......

anyway thanks for all your help, again! :)
