I just got this laptop and am a little confused...

A) When i have dynamic freq selected in bios the cpu is always running at 1800mhz instead of 3.06gig, even when plugged into ac. I can't seem to get it to run at 3 gig unless I set the bios option to always high.. Will this overheat the laptop??? especially if I just leave it there all day running.

B) Why is the fsb running at 133mhz?? the ram in this thing is supposed to be DDR333 which to me would mean a FSB of 166mhz...

Bear with me as this is the first laptop I have owned and also the first intel I have ownd... maybe I am reading something wrong..

I have attatched a cpuz screenie

Ok so that problem doesn't look like its going to get answered so I have another question now... I wanted to update the bios on the laptop.... easy right???

I went to toshiba website and I couldn't find my model there so I went to toshiba Australia and it is still not there in the download section, the only hint of my model I can find is a pdf download of the sales flyer... yay!! :(

MODEL: Toshiba A60
Part #: PSA63A-002001

So anyways I decided to download the A63 Bios from the aussie site and try that... It is the only one I can find that comes close. I also found a PSA63E bios on the european website... would this one be ok.

So I flashed the laptop with the A63 bios and it works ok but sometimes on a restart the screen goes beserk on startup... it just has heaps of strange lines on it and kinda flashes at me... oooops. Do you think maybe I have flashed it with the wrong bios???

If anyone can find the correct bios for me I will buy them a beer!!!

Try flashing it back, just in case. You don't really need a BIOS update anyhow.

The RAM may be DDR333, but the CPU runs at 133MHz FSB, rather than 166MHz, so the RAM is running at lower speeds too. Upping the FSB would of course overclock the CPU, but you'd know that at the very least, your RAM would handle up to 166MHz FSB speeds.

Dynamic frequency lowers the CPU speed so that when you're not loading the PC much, you can save battery power, and won't the power up as much.
If the CPU is running at full speed all the time, the performance difference may be too low to notice, if you're just using a web browser, etc. and your laptop might get very very hot. You're better off just leaving it as dynamic. It'll still give you the full 3GHz when you need it, but lower the speeds when you don't.

About the BIOS... never ever flash things when you're not sure of the compatibility of the BIOS. It's probably fine, but it might be that something is getting identified incorrectly *shrug*, can't be sure though.
Best of luck with the BIOS hunt, though you likely don't need it.

You could try CPUcool or CPUFSB. Both made by the same guy. Worked on my old 845PESV board when nothing else would. Worth a shot I suppose.
